Wow! Tuesday's Schmoop Theme was so fabulous! I just want to squish you all!

Today's theme is: Movies.

The good Doctor Daniel Jackson is quite possibly mildly deranged. Jonathan ‘Jack’ O’Neill, Captain and commander of the HMS Sara and long-serving officer in His Britannic Majesty’s royal navy, is quite convinced of this fact. It does explain a fair few of the queer and frankly quite strange things that occur on his vessel.

There is the good Doctor’s penchant for history, for example. Not an uncommon interest, to be sure, but to be lectured on the subject at such great length and frequency when there are many other, more ship-orientated, matters that urgently require the Captain’s attention? It is distressing, then, that Jack finds himself urging the Doctor to accompany him about the ship and, in fact, encourages the speech that flows freely when Jackson is so very interested in his current topic.

Then there is the way Jackson demanded that Jack weigh anchor off the coast of Greece for three days so that he might have the opportunity to take a boat and dive to see the ruins beneath the clear waters of the Aegean Sea. Jack had agreed uncommonly quick, his first officer had informed him later, but the other officer’s eyes had been sparkling with good humour. It was well known aboard the Sara that the good Doctor had a way about him that led to the most taciturn and disagreeable men being swayed to his opinions and whims.

“Danny,” Jack begins one fine evening when they are both sitting in his cabin, but then he finds himself without words when Daniel looks up at him from his volume on the great palaces of the ancient world.

Jackson blinks terribly blue eyes at him from behind his spectacles and then smiles, and Jack feels a sudden burden being lifted from his mind, although he had no idea that such a burden had even existed.

“I know, joy,” Daniel murmurs, and he reaches out to take Jack’s hand. “I know.”

Thank you very much for writing my prompt! And I love it!!! It sounds so Jack and Daniel and at the same time Aubrey and Maturin. I love it how you made Maturin's visit to Galapagos - Daniel's visit to ancient Greece. *g*
And already the first sentence is so lovely - and sets the tone for the whole ficlet.
And the last sentence - *melt*. It's perfect! It's so tender and makes me so happy reading it and sounds absolutely true for both pairings.
