Monday: Five Things/Times
May. 30th, 2016 04:56 pmHi all! I’m
beckonade and today's theme is five things/times. Prompts can be any spin on the classic five things format, including the related "five times something happened and one time it didn't" variation.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ The Librarians, Cassandra/Eve, five times they got lost in the library
+ Once Upon a Time, Regina/Ruby, five times they almost kissed and one time they did
+ Primeval, Helen/Abby, five things that happen in the cretaceous
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

"Th-then you mean-"
"That all the time we have spent alone together has involved getting to know one another better, which is, I believe the function of a date. Hence, tonight at Ten Forward is our sixth date. Or would you prefer I recalibrate my calculations with different parameters?"
"Date number six, huh?"
"I understand the convention is to ... become physically intimate after four dates, however the Holodeck required significant repairs, and then your release from sickbay was conditional, so I did not press you to further our physical intimacies. Was I incorrect?" Data asked.
"I - No, Data. You were right. I apologise for not seeing the romance in those perilous situations. I need to adjust my own parameters," Geordi joked. "So, why don't we skip Ten Forward and get something from the replicator in my quarters?"

1.
There were few things she could do in their camp that didn't require Daryl's supervision. He kept an eye on her work when it was her turn to clean the crossbow bolts (and after she'd managed to bend one, back in their first week together, Beth couldn't blame him). He would even check after she'd set their alarm system, even though the whole operation consisted of walking in a rough circle with a bit of string and empty cans. Of course, it was a matter of life or death. It needed to rattle as soon as something - living or dead - tripped into it, rather than get snagged on a nearby branch or some small rock.
Daryl had shifted several branches and rocks in their time together, though not as many these last days.
Beth understood. He had the experience; she didn't.
She was learning; that was the important part. She felt confident that soon Daryl would relax a little, trust her judgment more - or at least stop looking as if the whole of the world was on his shoulders, and Beth was an extra weight.
Sure, there were several tasks she still needed to practice.
But she could start a fire.
Nice as it was, to wake up the warmth of a bright fire, it also made her feel useless. Useless people didn't last long. "I could have done that," she told him, aware that she sounded annoyed and unable to stop herself.
If Daryl didn't believe that she could be of help, then why bother?
He didn't even glance over at her. He just grunted in agreement, so casually that Beth understood it didn't matter to him who took care of the fire as long as it got done.
As if they were equals.
And even though she was aware that they weren't, not when she needed him more than he needed her, Beth still liked the thought of it.

Date: 2016-06-01 04:01 pm (UTC)Here is a snippet for you;
The rose petals linger near the bed, soft and ruby red, and smelling sweet. The golden candlelight glow warms the room, and Jude closes his eyes against the light, smiling softly as gentle fingertips tiptoe over his face. A hand palms his cheek, and he leans into the touch, breathes deeply, exhales in a soft puff of air as lips kiss him. His toes curl, sparks lighting him up from the inside. Zero brushes a gentle hand over Jude’s cheek, smiling fondly as they lay together, cuddling. He leans in and kisses Jude’s soft lips once again, and Jude smiles into the tender kiss, feeling warm and safe in his boyfriend’s embrace.

Date: 2016-06-18 01:28 am (UTC)As they sit at the counter, waiting for their lunch, people begin to stare and whisper. Some of them sneak out their phones to take pictures.
Taylor braces herself, but Karlie orders their sandwiches to go and points Taylor toward the back door.
~ ~ ~
Standing at the 9/11 Memorial, Taylor takes in a wavering breath as she reads the names of the victims.
Silently, Karlie reaches out to squeeze Taylor’s hand.

A shopping trip on Madison Avenue turns into a walk in the rain when afternoon showers penetrate the clouds.
Taylor and Karlie huddle under one umbrella as they try to keep themselves and their purchases dry.
They skirt around photographers who have been following them and scan the street for suitable shelter.
A cab speeds through a large puddle, drenching them both.
The women laugh heartily, even as the paparazzi snap away.
~ ~ ~
When there’s a break in between songs at Taylor’s Madison Square Garden concert, Karlie pauses in her dancing, a little breathless.
Taylor dedicates her next song to “the person who taught me it was okay to love again” before the band launches into Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song”.
Karlie’s own heart flutters, and now she’s twice as breathless.
~ ~ ~
Taylor wakes up to the sun rising over Manhattan. Karlie is standing naked near the window, watching the sky’s colors change and fade, brightening light playing majestically over her skin.
Taylor smiles sleepily when Karlie notices she’s awake. The model moves to the kitchen to make coffee, pausing on her way to give Taylor a good-morning kiss.
Taylor snuggles into the sheets, smiling again, knowing she’s home.

Date: 2016-05-30 02:15 pm (UTC)Evan looked him up and down and said, quietly, "No, sir."
John, who'd taken a step forward, froze like he'd hit a brick wall. "Right. Sorry. Just - we'll talk later."
"In the morning, sir. When I'm back on duty."
John nodded and turned and walked away. Vampires were allowed in without permission, Evan knew that, but John was a person, and his mother, lamia though she might have been, had raised him with manners.
2. "Sorry," John said apologetically to Jeannie. "I can't. Garlic."
Her eyes went round. "Oh. Oh! I didn't even think. Is the smell offending you? I just - oh dear. Mer, why didn't you tell me?"
"I don't mind the smell," John said. "I just, you know, can't."
Jeannie looked panicked. "I'm so sorry, John. Is there anything? Should I, uh, call a blood bank?"
"No, really, it's fine. I can eat the bread and the salad," John said.
"If you're sure."
"Positive."
"I'll remember for the next meal," Jeannie said.
"It's okay. As long as there's no citrus for Rodney, we're good. Apparently there's no Pegasus equivalent of garlic." John smiled his most charming smile, and Rodney kicked him in the ankle. Of course John would find a way to get out of eating any of the tofu.
3. "I can't go in there," John said in a low voice.
"Why? It's just a church," Rodney said. As soon as the words came out of his mouth, he realized. "Oh. Um." John had been pretty open and honest about what it meant to be a vampire, but Rodney, who'd never put much stock in them, didn't know much vampire mythology off-hand, so hadn't thought to question whether all of the things he'd learned on Buffy the Vampire Slayer were true.
Evan, wearing his dress service blues, was filing into the church with Carson and Teldy. Why were shapeshifters immune to churches?
And Rodney realized it wasn't a vampire thing at all. It was a John thing. John couldn't stand to go to one more funeral, not today.
So Rodney said, "All right. Let's just take a walk around the lawns till the others are done."
John nodded tightly. Said, "Thanks."
4. "Nope, not moving." John lay back and closed his eyes. War and Peace was open on his chest, but he hadn't made much headway on it.
"Come on, John. We're just going across the river." Rodney was finally joining Carson on a fishing expedition. Evan, who'd been fishing before, had assured Rodney that as long as he brought something to do while he waited for a fish to bite, it wouldn't be boring, just relaxing.
"Yup, across the river. Vampires can't cross running water. I'm going to stay right here."
"That's bollocks," Carson said.
Evan said, "Let him be boring. I want some fish!"
"You can catch fish with your bare hands, which is just unfair," Rodney said.
"I want to teach Ronon how to fish in True Form," Evan said.
Ronon grinned.
"All right, let's go," Carson said. "Colonel Boring can stay right where he is."
"Don't get sunburned," Evan called over his shoulder.
The men departed, and John napped.
5. "A pencil," John said.
Rodney blinked at him. "What?"
"A pencil in the right place would do it," John said. "You don't need a massive wooden stake. If you wanted to kill me."
Rodney remembered in the gate room, with the Iratus bug, one of the marines threatening John with a pencil.
"That part is true," John said. "Wood kills us. And fire. We're not as invulnerable as you think."
"Why are you telling me this?"
"If I ever become the monster I've always been afraid of being, I need you to stop me."
"John -"
John pressed a pencil into Rodney's hands, kissed him, and walked away.
