[identity profile] aivix.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] comment_fic
Good Morning, dears and darlings! I’m [livejournal.com profile] aivix and today's theme is One Day. Prompts must relate to things that happen within a single day.

Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!

Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt

Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate: Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, Their long-awaited Sunday.
+ Stargate: SG-1, Jack O'Neill/Samantha Carter, The first time newlyweds have been alone all day.
+ The Crown, Princess Margaret/Peter Townsend, If they'd gotten their day alone.
+ Supernatural, Sam Winchester/Gabriel, The Mystery Spot wasn't the first time Gabriel made Sam repeatedly re-live the same day.
+ Any, Any, 1440 minutes.

We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.

Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.

While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Leverage, Eliot/any male or any ot3, keeping someone distracted for a day

Eliot Spencer takes his job as protector seriously; that includes both during and after a job. Not all jobs they deal with are easy, and some people they deal with define the word "horror". When his team returns home after some of the worst jobs, Eliot watches them closely. He has long since learned not all injuries are physical.

He finds the best solution to protect his friends is with distraction, even if just for a day. With Parker, it's easy. She's got the attention of a kitten with a ball of string, so he finds that of all places it's the zoo that distracts her the most. She loves the animals, she loves the food, and she loves all the people to pickpocket from. Hell, she even likes casing the security systems. He's found more than once that he has to remind her, Parker, you have to put the tarantula/lemur/penguin back.

Hardison is also easy. Bonus, it's more fun. Anywhere quiet and outdoors works. Dragging the geek kid away from his electronics is the best. Sure, it means listening to a monologue of...well, whatever Hardison likes to whine about, but Eliot's fine with that. He's long ago learned to tune people out. Besides, once Hardison calms down, the kid's actually enjoyable. Eliot still snorts about the time Hardison jumped off their fishing boat running in fear from an angry fish.

Sophie is not so easy. Jewels and art distract her best, but she's smart. She knows what Eliot is up to, and that defeats the purpose. If he's going to get her to relax, he needs to get her guard down. Luckily, he found the answer entirely by accident - and in the unlikeliest of places, no less: the mall. Eliot knows Sophie is a people watcher, but it turns out she is also a shopaholic. Between window shopping and the food court, Sophie is on distraction overload, with all worries forgotten.

Nate is...well, Nate. The only thing that truly distracts him (positively, Eliot reminds himself - alcohol and grieving about his son don't count), is a job. Eliot's not great at finding those. He's the hitter, after all. Not the mastermind. That is, until he figured out what hismastermind was up to: training Eliot not to be just the hitter. So Eliot goes along. He admires Nate, and it's been a long time since someone cared enough to give him a shot at redemption.

After all, Eliot needs to be distracted too.

any, any, a long car ride with awful music.

The timing had seemed perfect, initially. Rodney would take a quick trip with the Daedalus to map out some travel routes that didn’t involve Stargates and, while he was gone, John would put the finishing touches on the perfect marriage proposal. Two weeks was ample time.

What he hadn’t anticipated was the final twenty-four hours.

John had been busy for most of those two weeks. There was harvesting to help with on the mainland, and a couple milk runs to established allies, and quarterly staff reviews. He was too busy to be anything other than excited about what was coming.

The final day dragged, so much so that he thought about checking in with Radek to make sure there weren’t any localized time dilation fields.

“Already done, sir,” Lorne said when John indicated he needed to take one final pass on the personnel paperwork before submitting it. “The monthly requisitions and team assignments have also been completed.”

Most of the time John appreciated having such an efficient XO, but he would’ve killed for some paperwork to help pass the time.

John checked in with Chuck, to see if there was anything going on he needed to know about.

“We’re green across the board, Colonel,” Chuck replied. “Two teams offworld, and both made their scheduled check-ins without incident. One team still on the mainland, erecting a barn for the Athosians.”

John nodded, pleased everything was going well but also a little bummed there wasn’t something he could be helping with. The other Gate teams were in the city – one going through routine psychological screening, one getting their annual medical checks, two others training with Ronon, and one doing a sweep with the scientists of an unexplored tower.

“Anything from AR-4?”

“Nothing of note. The tower seems largely residential.”

Right. Nothing doing there. John sighed and wandered back to his office. He propped his feet on the desk, pulled out a golfing magazine that was now a good two years old, and pretended to read an article about women golfers through the years.

He was ready to get married. The differences in his relationships with Nancy and Rodney went far deeper than reproductive organs. With Rodney, John felt understood and appreciated in a way he never had been before. He felt seen. And he’d never have to hide things from Rodney because of his work being classified. Hell, Rodney had a higher security clearance than he did.

Did they need to make things legal, though? That was the little seed of doubt John couldn’t seem to get rid of. What was the wedding for, really? They were already each other’s health proxies. They were already sharing a living space. What difference did a piece of paper make, especially out there in Pegasus?

John gave up on the magazine and went back to his room. He changed into running shorts and sneakers and headed out on his usual route. Running was something to do that he could focus his attention on, which had the added benefit of being healthy. A win-win.

Except he didn’t need to expend much energy focusing on his breathing or pumping his legs, and his mind quickly began to wander. Twenty-four hours. One thousand, four hundred and forty minutes. It sounded like a lot put that way, though of course it was about half that now. Just over eight hundred minutes if he was doing the math right, and he always did the math right.

Running only took up a fraction of the remaining time, so John got in on Ronon’s training session. Once he’d been summarily squashed for the entertainment of the Marines, he and Ronon went to lunch.

“McKay back today?”

“Yup.”

Even John’s jaw was sore. Maybe getting pummeled hadn’t been the best idea, especially right before his big moment. He chewed his turkey sandwich as gently as possible.

“Been quiet with him gone.”

“Yup.”

Ronon wasn’t the best person to have a lengthy conversation with, although admittedly John wasn’t great about holding up his end either. All too soon, lunch was over and he still had hours to kill.
