Backup Community on DW
Jan. 9th, 2017 09:32 pmIn light of Russia now having more, if all of LiveJournal's servers, there is a back up of this community on DreamWidth.

The DW community is where we will be backing up this community on a weekly basis. You do not need to have an account there to leave comments as they accept OpenIDs, meaning, if you have an LJ account, you can post comments there using that account information.
Keep in mind that if you leave a comment there, it will not show up here. However, if you leave a comment here, it will eventually show up there...when we do the community backup every weekend.
When the time comes for us to have to post only to the DW community, the same rules apply there as they do here. Posting access will only be given to moderators/administrators and weekly guest hosts.
If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them here and I or one of the mods will try to answer them to the best of our ability.

Date: 2017-04-16 03:28 pm (UTC)For example, if a comm member leaves comments here on LJ, you do Back-Up B, that comm member deletes their personal LJ and all their LJ comments, and you do Back-Up B... then will that comm member's comments also disappear from DW?
I'm still not entirely sure how OpenID works, to be honest.
[edited b/c hashtags can work with one character, ugh]

Date: 2017-04-16 04:52 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if comments that were previously deleted here will be deleted on DW when imports happen. Meaning, I'm not sure if it's a full re-write of previously imported things or if entries/comments are just added.
From DW, this is what OpenID is: (http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=62&q=openid&lang=) OpenID is a way for you to take the account you've created from another site that supports OpenID and use it to comment or participate in communities on Dreamwidth. Sites that offer OpenID support include all sites based on recent versions of the LiveJournal code, all sites based on Dreamwidth code, many email providers, and many more.
basically, if you have an (active) account with LJ or another platform that also uses openID, then you can comment in DW using that login information. For example, if I didn't have a DW acocunt, I could comment to a DW entry (if the settings allow for it) using my LJ login info.
Here is info about being able to comment on DW entries with your LJ user name (http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=123&q=openid&lang=).
Of course, this only applies if you don't already have a DW account.
