Well this is my last day as your Guest Host and so I am leaving you with one final prompt:

Through the Looking Glass - this is the ULTIMATE AU

Think mirror!verse, bodyswap!, anything and everything that makes you see how the other side lives.

And the rules one more time –

No spoilers in your prompts for at least one week after publication/air date.

If there are spoilers in your story, you must warn in bold and leave at least 3 spaces.

No more than 5 prompts in a row, and no more than 3 prompts per fandom. If one of your prompts is answered, you can prompt again.

Respect our code monkeys, and follow the standard format with your prompts. Such as:

Leverage, Eliot/Parker, bodyswap! How the hell is he supposed to walk in these heels? And why won't Parker come out of the bathroom?

KANE RPS, Kane/Carlson, Steve's always been the famous one...Chris is just his back-up singing best friend

Supernatural, Sam+Dean (no wincest please), Sam went to hell in Dean's place and lasted two weeks

Don't forget the Lonely Prompts if there's nothing here that interests you today!

Ready...and...GO!!

Warning Death Fic (because the What if's can be MORBID)

"The only person I am," Steve snarled, "is the man who is going to kill you."

Bucky gasped in pain as Steve's fist slammed against the shield hard enough to knock Bucky off his feet and into the wall.

"He'll do it," Bucky realized as he stared into the blue eyes of what was left of his mentor, his friend.

Bucky swore at the pain in his back and shoulders. He'd been holding back. Already disadvantaged against the Super Soldier, and he'd been holding back.

And this man had to be stopped. The Cosmic cube could not fall into the hands of evil. Not again.

Bucky looked at the face he'd known so intimately, that he'd laid awake in bed begging fate to let him see again.

Fate was a fucking bitch.

He looked at Steve's blue eyes for something, anything of the noble, loving, friend that had been there.

Bucky found nothing but the eyes of a killer. Helet his eyes close for only a second.

A second to remember warm arms around him. A second to remember being chest to chest with Steve, beneath him, safe with him. A second to remember laying wrapped in the same too thin sleeping bag. A second to remember Steve lavishing kisses on him, thanking him for saving them all from the Red Skull's brainwashing.

"I'd have rather died," Steve whispered as he held Bucky close. "I'd rather die then serve the Red Skull."

Bucky had laughed then because after all, he'd saved Steve. Laughed as he'd pulled Steve's shirt off.

He opened his eyes again.

"I know what you'd want Steve," he whispered. He would save Steve again. No matter the cost.

The assassin scowled, and pulled out a knife from his boot.

"I told you, I'm not Steve."

Bucky drew his own knife, "Yeah," he whispered, "I know that. Now."

When Sharon and Sam made it to the lower level of the Bunker that found Bucky cradling Steve's still form, his hands drenched in blood.

"I got your back, buddy," Bucky whispered, looking up and hoping Steve understood.

Thanks! Dark, but pretty fascinating.

Poor boys. :(

Sorry it's so dark. I had trouble with ripping some CD's and my program worked so I vowed sidekicks would suffer for this *L*

That and I just don't think poor Bucky would have the ability to hold back the way Steve did, given Steve would be the Super Soldier serum and a Bucky wouldn't :( (how he survived the ice I do not know)

But I will keep this version brief. And I know you already got an answer, but hopefully you won't mind a second one. ;)

~~~~~~~
Bucky heard the crack of the bullet, and though he put the shield up to block, it wasn't fast enough. Despite the enhancements of the radiation that Bucky had been exposed to during the War, he still wasn't able to jump out of the way in time. It might have made him able to survive the ice, but it wasn't going to allow him to be faster than the super-soldier.
Bucky's first thought was that, even evil, Steve Rogers was still his better.
His second thought was that the Russians had let covered up that beautiful blond hair that Bucky had spent many nights running his fingers through with the ugliest outfit imaginable.
They always said that your entire life flashed before you when you were getting ready to die, and Steve had always been Bucky's entire life.
"American slime. I will finish you."
But Bucky wouldn't die. He'd failed Steve on the last mission they'd had together, and every year since. He wouldn't allow that failure to continue a minute more.
Bucky saw the glint of the gun again, as Steve knelt beside him, but he'd also been counting, and he knew that Steve was out of bullets.
Despite the bleeding in his abdomen, Bucky reaches up and grabs the cosmic cube that Steve has been holding on to. Only orders not to use it have kept the man from using it against Bucky. It's the bitterness of ironies: the people that took Steve away from him are the same ones that are keeping Bucky alive.
Steve was too busy removing his knife - to finish Bucky off, no doubt - to notice, until it was too late.
"Remember," Bucky commanded. "Who we were."
~~
The nightmares were to expected, Bucky supposed. God knew, if he was able to sleep, he would have had nightmares, too.
He'd read the report, after all. He knew what Steve - Steve who hated to kill, even during war time - must have been dreaming about. Every bullet, every knife wound, every poison, every snap of the neck...he was reliving them all.
Bucky would have known that, even if he hadn't been sharing a bed, staying up, and watching Steve while he slept.
"I'm sorry," he murmured into Steve's blond hair, fingers repeating the paths that they enjoyed had nearly 7 decades before.
"Not your fault," Steve murmured into his chest. But the shoulders that had always born so much shook with a weight that was too strong even for Steve's shoulders.
Bucky knew that wasn't true. Even if he could ever believe that he hadn't been responsible for letting Steve get in the Russians' hands, he knew he was responsible for not delivering the mercy kill.
But in no world could Bucky ever kill Steve. Not even in a world in which it would have been better for Steve to do so.
Bucky just held him tight. He needed Steve more than ever - with the registration noise that was making the rounds, Bucky didn't know what side he was supposed to be on. He needed Steve more than ever.
Bucky bent and kissed Steve lightly. The strong arms wrapped around Bucky's waist, giving the forgiveness Bucky sought.
Oh, this was fantastic! The other one was much grimmer, so I was glad to see them wind up together here. :D
This is really the ultimate What If plotbunny. Marvel should do one.
Heee. I am kind of hopeless for my Steve/Bucky happily ever after parade. ;)
And yeah, Marvel absolutely should. ;)
Yay! Not death (I was in a grim mood, what can I say).
Also massive fic with this AU would be awesome. I'm just saying ^__^
Hee. I love death and angst fics. Bucky/Steve is just my pet OTP where I have to struggle to hurt them. Everyone else gets buckets of pain daily, but those two I keep giving fluff and kittens to. Silly boys.
Hee. I might tackle it at some stage, but the sheer volume of trying to figure out how the Marvel U would have turned out differently without Steve is daunting. ;)
