Date: 2017-01-14 02:08 pm (UTC)fill: Scream 1996/Highlander
Date: 2023-03-23 05:37 pm (UTC)Benjamin and Edward Pierce, two young men in their late teens and early 20s, are both charming and clever as they drive from one ocean to the other. They see the sights, flirt with locals, check out the best places to eat, and are easily forgotten once they pass through. Ben regales his younger brother with literature and philosophy while Eddie educates his older brother on film techniques and trivia. They’re both lanky and lean, hiding strong musculature with loose and baggy clothes, with Eddie being a few inches taller. They’re both skilled in blades (hunting knives and the like) and firearms, and Ben ensures daily practice to maintain those skills.
Orphaned as children, Ben essentially raised his younger brother as they were shuffled from uncaring relatives and government custody, until finally, Ben took Eddie and vanished into a transient life of freedom without cares.
Or so they both imply, whenever asked anything about their history.
.
For most of the first year, he still thinks of himself as Stu and Eddie as a character he portrays. Beyond his basic education in whatever Ben thinks important and the physical training necessary to survive The Game, Ben spends most of his time guiding Stu into becoming Eddie because, “Eddie is Stu,” Ben tells him again and again and again.
“Just as I am Ben Pierce, I was Adam Pierson before him,” Ben explains. “And someone else before, back for decades. But they all are me, facets of myself. A mask, yes,” and flicks Eddie-Stu on the forehead, “but not a character.”
It takes months and months, but Stu Macher eventually fades into Eddie Pierce—who has Stu’s sense of humor and quick wit and love of movies, but is also more serious, occasionally solemn, reflecting the much more fraught childhood than Stu experienced. Eddie Pierce has lighter hair, slouches more, wears thin-framed glasses with no prescription, and though he wears clothes just as baggy, they are non-descript instead of patterned loudly or with brands and logos. Stu Macher was always the centerof attention; Eddie Pierce tries to disappear.
The Pierce brothers are in Baton Rouge, exploring Cajun cuisine for the first time, when news breaks of the college massacre by Nancy Loomis and a student-accomplice, inspired by and in the name of her son—the late mass murderer Billy Loomis.
Eddie has not allowed himself to linger on thoughts of Billy as he learned and trained and lived in the past year and a half. He has never forgotten his best friend, his partner, his first in all things but Billy belongs to Stu and Stu’s bottomless pit of rage.
Ben nudges his shoulder, so Eddie turns away from the TV to finish his gumbo.
.
“This is your play, kid,” Ben says as Eddie spreads every newspaper he could find on the floor of their motel room. “What do you want to do?”
Eddie breathes in, exhales slowly, and lets Stu’s anger rise to the fore. “Gotta get the lay of the land,” he says. “Then I’ll start to plan.” He doesn’t look up but he knows Ben is grinning his wide, wicked grin.

I've never seen you shine so bright, you were amazing,
I've never seen so many people want to be there by your side,
And when you turned to me and smiled, it took my breath away

Date: 2017-01-15 08:23 am (UTC)Evan had betrayed a lot of his family’s ideals by joining the Air Force, by agreeing to serve the government and become an instrument of war, but his mother, grandmother, and sister, had never stopped loving him, never stopped supporting him, and tried to understand him. Watching Lucius Malfoy decimate his son in cold, unwavering terms was heartbreaking. He referred to Draco was his spawn, his failed fruit, a coward, a weakling, a pathetic child. Hearing Lucius denigrate his own wife for her weakness and disloyalty to the Dark Lord, choosing her son’s life over Voldemort’s was worse.
While Sheppard had explained the politics and history of the Second Rise of Voldemort, Evan hadn’t really appreciated the finer, bloodier details of the conflict. As a soldier, and a member of Stargate Command, he’d been witness and subject to horrors beyond the ken of the average soldier, but magic was capable of things Evan had never imagined. The torture, the mind-control, the rending of souls.
The worst part was the children. Children being targeted in the war, and children fighting in the war. Audrey and Cho had a parade of witnesses who described the horror of the Death Eaters’ invasion of Hogwarts, their taking of the castle, the year of misery under the tutelage of the Death Eaters, the Battle of Hogwarts. Evan had seen Derek in the field, and it was all too easy to imagine him younger, more slender, hair longer, with that same battle grimness on his face, that same cultivated blankness that hid a perfect willingness to inflict violence.
Theo was an amazing solicitor. He had witnesses on the stand, people like Derek who’d grown up the children of Death Eaters, became Death Eaters themselves, spent their adolescence in fear and terror with the Dark Lord roaming the halls of their ancestral homes, turning on people in an instant, torturing or killing them at the drop of a hat, the sheer unpredictability of it all. Theo got Harry Potter to admit, on the stand, that Derek had lied to his murderous aunt, the infamous psycho killer Bellatrix Lestrange, about Harry’s identity and saved his life when he and his friend Hermione were captured by Death Eaters. Theo put O’Neill and Sheppard and members of SG-15 on the stand to speak of Derek’s discipline, courage, and heroism in the field. He put Lam, Beckett, and Keller on the stand to expound on Derek’s medical history, the things he suffered in the line of duty.
Whatever mistakes Derek had made as a frightened teenager, one raised with fear and, admittedly, bigotry, he’d more than made up for them while fighting to defend multiple galaxies from threats far bigger than Tom Riddle. That was Theo’s argument.
Audrey and Cho’s argument was that there was no way for Draco Malfoy to make up for the pain he’d caused, and he deserved to be punished.
And now the jury was going to hear from Derek himself.
“When I was seventeen years old,” Derek said, “I had a choice. I could let some of my father’s friends and longtime associates and relatives into Hogwarts Castle, or I could let a madman murder my mother and father. On paper, the choice should have been easy. If all lives are created equal, many lives are worth more than one life. I should have sacrificed my mother for a group of children who represented all I had been taught to fear.”
Nausea roiled in Evan’s stomach. He couldn’t imagine having to choose between his mother and innocent children. His mother would have wanted him to choose the children. He knew he’d have chosen her, and he’d have hated himself every day for the rest of his life.

Date: 2017-01-14 07:04 pm (UTC)FILL: Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, Graphic Violence, Murder, and Near Death (MCs)
Date: 2017-01-16 12:34 am (UTC)The entire Five-0 ohana was devoted to each other. They weren't just a task force; they were a family. They had first proven just how far they would go for each other when Danny, Kono, and Steve stole money from a H.P.D. evidence locker to pay off Victor Hesse, who was blackmailing them and had a bomb strapped around Chin's neck. They would do anything for each other, and they wouldn't regret it for a moment.
But Steve and Danny had a particularly special devotion to each other that bordered on insanity.
That's why Steve lied to the FBI so that Danny could have a chance to talk his brother into turning himself in. That's why Danny stayed behind after Steve had been arrested for shooting the governor even though his ex-wife and daughter were waiting for him to meet them in New Jersey. It's why Steve wouldn't leave Danny's side when a bomb was about to blow him to pieces despite Danny begging him to leave, why he followed Danny to Columbia, and why he would have been willing to take the fall with Danny for Marco Reyes's death. It's why Danny flew to Afghanistan to sit at Steve's bedside, why he signed papers to ensure that Steve wouldn't go to Columbian prison, and why he volunteered to give Steve half his liver before anyone else in their ohana could even get their blood tested.
Anyone with functioning eyes could see that Danny and Steve weren't just "partners." Their relationship was basically a marriage without the explicit romance (although the way they looked at and touched each other spoke of a deep-seated, poorly concealed mutual attraction). But the love part? The irrational commitment, for better or for worse, for the rest of their lives part? They had that covered. They just hadn't declared vows in front of friends and family.
At least not yet.

Date: 2017-01-14 07:30 pm (UTC)Yes I still remember, every whispered word
The touch of your skin, giving life from within
Like a love song that I'd heard
Slippin' through our fingers, like the sands of time
Promises made, every memory saved
Has reflections in my mind
Hasta mañana, always be mine
Back where I belong now, was it just a dream
Feelings unfold, they will never be sold
And the secret's safe with me
Hasta mañana, always be mine
