Hi again, I am still beckonade and today our theme is secrets. What deep dark things are your favorites hiding? Can they keep a secret or do they fold under pressure?

Just a few rules:

No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.

FILL: Angel the series, Cordelia Chase, Warning for Impending Major Character Death

She considers telling them, sometimes.

It would feel a lot less lonely if they knew, she thinks. She wouldn't have to pretend to need to use the restroom just so she could take her Seltrex, the only medication strong enough to occasionally ease the pain. As humiliating as it would be to have someone witness her throwing up in the bathroom as a side effect of her medication, it would be nice to have someone hold her hair back, clean up any vomit that couldn't make it to the toilet, and help take her to a room when she's feeling weak and dizzy. Maybe, just once, she could cry with someone for the fact that she won't even live long enough to make it to 25, will never get to be a famous actress, or have children or grandchildren of her own.

Dennis does what he can when she has a vision or suffers from after-effects at home, but she doesn't always have visions at home. And as much as she loves Dennis, ghostly arms can't provide the comfort of a human touch.

(Or a vampire's touch. Cordelia tries not to think about that.)

But she never does. This is her burden, her cross to bear, and she must deal with it alone, with only the comfort of her ghost.

Cordelia knows that the news of her imminent demise would devastate her friends. She imagines how awkward the announcement would be and how it would suck all of the life out of the room (vampire pun not intended). There's no easy way to say "Hey guys, I could die at any moment!" Cordy doesn't want to see Wes, Gunn, Fred, Angel, and Lorne walking around like the walking wounded because of her. They already have enough to deal with as it is, and she can't take away all of their happiness.

Angel would be the worst. He already has so much guilt for things in his past, things that aren't his fault, and things that can't be changed. He would be feel so much remorse as the person for whom she gets the visions in the first place. Cordy gets the sense that Angel feels responsible for her, like the idiot he is. She had made it her personal mission to make Angel less broody and she can't tell him something that would send him into a perpetual brood.

At least until he finds some way to get rid of the visions. Angel would be stubborn and pigheaded enough to force the visions out of her regardless of her protests, and the others would cave to his demands. Cordy can't let that happen either.

The visions give her a purpose, a reason to be a part of Angel's team. As much as she hates the way they made her practically brain dead, Cordelia wouldn't give them up for anything. Angel was stupid and sentimental enough to recently say that he needed her for more than her visions, but Cordy knows that isn't true. What else could he use her for, her poor computer skills or incomprehensible filing system? Yeah right! It's not like she's Buffy or something.

That's why she didn't take that opportunity with Groo to give up the visions. Instead, she maintains a careful routine to ensure that the others will never find out. She keeps her Seltrex in her purse or in her pocket when she must take it at work, and she stores her purse under her desk every day. She avoids taking her medication at work whenever possible and makes excuses to leave before the nastier side effects can kick in. She never writes down when she has an appointment with her neurologist and tries to schedule her appointments at times that make her lies that about having a date or an audition or needing to go home to sleep seem plausible. She stores the CAT scans and medication that no longer works in a plastic tub under her bed. Out of sight, out of mind. She swore Dennis to secrecy months ago, and she rips apart the little notes he leaves her insisting that she "Tell him!!!" (And of course, she knows that Dennis is referring to Angel.)

Cordelia can't tell anyone she's dying from brain damage, so she ensures that her secret will never be discovered and lets everyone believe assume that the visions only cause manageable, survivable pain. It's terrible, but it's the best option she has.

For days, Rodney was miserable. He’d never been much good at talking about his feelings, but he’d never much cared for hiding them either, because life was generally more efficient if people knew what they were getting when they had to interact with him. Rodney had realized he was in love with John, witnessed John’s death, mourned him, witnessed his return, had glorious sex with him, and been rejected by him. Rodney was no expert in romantic comedies or romances in general, but he was pretty sure that chain of events entitled him to several days of misery, so miserable he was, storming around the labs, informing his staff in calm but cutting tones how incompetent they were, and scowling at anyone who dared to smile at him.

Teyla and Ford fled the room - Teyla politely and gracefully, Ford with a definite note of panic in his voice when he excused himself - whenever John and Rodney were in the same room. AR-1 hadn't been assigned for a new mission yet, not after the whole awful bug incident. Rodney wasn't sure he could stand to be in the same room with John for very long, not when John was all stiff politeness and deference and respect. Not when Rodney knew what John looked like calm, relaxed, happy, in Rodney's arms. Naked. In the throes of passion. During orgasm.

Those were things that, admittedly, gate team members weren't supposed to know about each other, but they were cut off from Earth, and they weren't a conventional gate team, not with Ford, Teyla, O'Neill, Rodney, and John all as one team. O'Neill had been making noise about giving Ford his own team since he was 2IC, and having the base commander and the 2IC on the same team was insane, but it was Pegasus and the Stargate Program. The program's entire premise was insane. Work with aliens.

Aliens who had stupid rules and ridiculous notions about interpersonal relationships.

Rodney couldn't stand the insincerity of John's politeness, knowing that what was behind it was not respect but distance, shutting him out. Rodney knew that ears were burning all across Atlantis for gossip about AR-1. No one knew what was going on, other than that it involved Rodney and John. The general consensus was that they were fighting over Teyla.

So Rodney avoided John and tried not to think about him, tried not to remember the softness of his kisses, his warmth and laughter and open sensuality in Rodney's bed.

Rodney was so twitchy with energy and tension that he actually went running. Running, to burn off the energy and hopefully get a good night's rest. He'd asked Ford about his running route, been blustery defensive at Ford's skepticism, and then changed into sweats, a t-shirt, and sneakers, and started along the circuit Ford had described, that utilized a lot of Atlantis's balconies.

If he was going to exert himself into possible cardiac arrest, he wanted to have a nice view while he was doing it.

The seas of Lantea were endless, deep blue, stretching out to the horizon on all sides of the city. Maybe it was just Rodney's imagination getting the better of him, but he was pretty sure he'd never seen a blue like it on Earth.

He rounded a bend and prepared to return indoors for the second half of the running circuit, through some lesser-used halls, when he heard voices.

O'Neill. And John.

Rodney paused, listened.

"I get that I look about half your age," O'Neill said, "but the truth is, I'm old enough to be your father. And I've been in your shoes. Take a load off, son, and let's talk. I will tell you all the secrets of the universe that I've learned in my five decades and change. Gonna give 'em all away for free." He cleared his throat. "As much as it pains me to even discuss feelings, I know how you feel."

"Sir," John began. He sounded like every other soldier just then, tentative but deferential.

Have you seen "I'm Coming Out" (http://archiveofourown.org/works/8048170) by insomniacsleeper. If you're cool with post-series fic and Chandler/Monica, I hugely recommend it. It's centered on Chandler's struggle to come to terms with his bisexuality (which he does in the fic, very late in life) and also features a heartwarming relationship between Chandler and his daughter Erica, who comes out as a lesbian in the fic.
