Date: 2017-02-12 02:06 am (UTC)Fill : The Flash, Joe/Caitlin
Date: 2017-02-17 09:10 pm (UTC)"You know this is a bad idea, right?"
Joe's voice came from behind her, quiet and serious. Still, when Caitlin turned her head to look over at him, there was a small smile playing around her lips. That smile had nothing to do with the question asked, and everything to do with the way the index finger of his left hand was tracing idle patterns on her left shoulder, the way that his breath ruffled her hair as he spoke, the way the warmth of his chest felt against the skin of her back.
"That question might have more weight," she pointed out, pressing herself against him, delighted at the way his body responded to her, "if we weren't lying naked together in my bed."
He gave her a look. The look, in fact, the one that he usually reserved for Barry or Wally or Iris when they were doing something he didn't approve of. "You know what I mean."
She did. Of course she did. She'd had this conversation with herself a dozen times and more since she'd realised that her feelings for him had started to change. But she'd never had it with him - they hadn't had a lot of time to talk once he'd appeared at her door and she'd kissed him for the second time and things had progressed rapidly from there.
Sighing, she turned so that she was facing him, missing the warmth of his body immediately. To compensate, she hooked one of her legs around his and she didn't miss how his eyes fluttered shut and a hastily smothered smile crossed his lips.
"I know, Joe," she told him quietly. "I know all the reasons we shouldn't do this, I've argued with myself about it for weeks." He blinked, unmistakeable surprise flashing across his features. Which confirmed the suspicion she'd had since she'd kissed him in STAR Labs earlier on that day - the man had absolutely no clue of her feelings for him, even though they'd been kind-of-sort-of flirting with each other for weeks now. She let that one go, deciding they had - hopefully - plenty of time to talk about that.
"I've lost people I cared about," she reminded him. "I know what it's like to be alone. To be lonely." His eyes darkened and his hand found her hip, squeezed gently. "And I don't know what this is going to be... if this is going to be anything. But I know that this? Is the least alone I've felt in a very long time."
He held her gaze for what seemed like a very long time before he replied. "Yeah." That had squeezed her hip again before moving around, moving lower. "Me too."
Caitlin knew she should say something, but the way his hand was moving against her skin made it difficult to speak. Instead, acting on instinct, she leaned forward, pressed her lips to a certain spot along his jaw that she'd noticed drove him wild. The reaction was just as she expected: a sharp intake of breath as his hand flattened against her ass, pulling her close against him so that she couldn't fail to notice his body's reaction.
She pulled back, grinning. "Are we done talking?" she asked impishly and he rolled his eyes as he rolled her onto her back.
"What do you think?" he asked and she shrugged, gave him her best innocent expression.
"I'm tired of thinking," she told him. "Do you think you could help me with that?"
He chuckled, low and filthy. "I'm sure I can come up with something."
To their mutual pleasure, that's just what he did.

Jack stopped dead. He screwed up his face. "Caddyshack's not old!"
Riley snorted as she ran past him. "It's old. You're old. Live with it."
The gunfire behind them cut off Jack's retort.

Date: 2017-06-26 01:39 am (UTC)In front of you the scientist alternately mutters to himself and shouts poisonously in terminology you don't understand: capacitors, transistors, the crystal array. The soldier watches the doorway mostly, glancing occasionally back to engage the scientist -- McKay -- by being in turns scathingly harsh and recklessly optimistic.
"Alright. Sheppard!" The scientist snaps and points. "There."
"Wait!" You call -- or rather, you break. Your will to live outweighs your loyalty, and you will not die beneath a pile of rubble with no one to take your body home. "You cannot turn it on."
They ignore him, the soldier positioning himself opposite the scientist. "On my mark, think as hard as you can."
You thrash in your bonds but the soldier doesn't bother stopping you. Whatever they've been trying to do, they believe they'll achieve it shortly. "We've had experts from all corners of the galaxy here to look at the device. It cannot be fixed! It will destroy this room and bury us alive!"
Frustrated, you kick at the metal panel behind you. The nails on the heel of your boot make contact with a satisfying noise. "You cannot do this! We are all in danger!"
They turn to look at you with identical looks of incomprehension.
"You idiot," the scientist tells you, "I am not in danger." He flips a switch and the lights on the consoles begin to throb, forcing you to avert your eyes as if you were trying to look past the noon sun. "I am the danger."
He nods to the soldier, his mark.

Date: 2017-02-13 03:05 am (UTC)Fill: SGA, McShep, college AU
Date: 2017-02-12 03:26 pm (UTC)So finally John was the one who planned and arranged the next date (Rodney always, always took the initiative, though John shouldn't have been surprised, given that Rodney was double-majoring in physics and engineering - he was clearly an ambitious guy).
It was simple. John was going to cook dinner (read: he was going to follow his roommate Evan's directions very carefully in making a meal) and they were going to play chess. Rodney was smart. He'd be a challenging partner. It would be just the two of them in John's apartment, maybe with a bit of candlelight and soft music. Kind of cliche, but John wanted to get to know Rodney better, and an environment without distractions would be best.
When Rodney arrived at the apartment, he was buzzing with energy. "So, what's the plan? Basketball? Go-Kart racing? Ropes course?"
"Dinner," John said, "and chess."
Rodney blinked. "Oh."
"It's not that I don't like doing those things," John said quickly. "I just thought - we don't get to talk often. So - dinner and chess." He smiled and let Rodney into the apartment.
Rodney had been there before, but only briefly, so John gave him the tour - den, bathroom, his bedroom, Evan's bedroom, kitchen. The furniture was old and used (John had refused his father's financial assistance) and the nicest thing they had was the entertainment center, half of which was Evan's books, movies and music, the other half of which was John's.
Rodney eyed an art history textbook. "You're an art major?"
Wow, had they really talked so little?
"Ah, no. Evan is."
Rodney drifted over to the other side of the entertainment center and peered at the shelves. He frowned. "Linear algebra? Partial differential equations? Computational fluid dynamics?" He spun to stare at John. "You - what are you majoring in?"
"Applied mathematics," John said.
"Then if I wanted to bemoan the horrors of the three-body problem, you'd understand," Rodney said slowly.
John groaned. "Yes, I would, all too well."
"Oh thank Newton." Rodney heaved a sigh of relief.
John blinked. "Thanks, I guess?"
"Yes - I mean no - it's just. It's just that I didn't want you think I was stuffy. You know, no fun. All brain, no penis." Rodney's hands fluttered nervously.
And finally all the high-adventure dates made sense. John had been starting to think Rodney didn't really want to get to know him so much as just have a partner in crime for his energetic shenanigans. "As someone who spends his days doing math, I can assure you that I know that having a brain and having a penis are not mutually exclusive." He smiled. "C'mon - I made chicken corden bleu, garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans. No citrus."
Rodney smiled. "That sounds - amazing."
"I hope it tastes amazing," John said. He led Rodney over to the table, which was set for two. He hadn't quite gone as far as candles, but it had been a close thing.
"So, chess?" Rodney asked. "I was never on any teams or in any clubs, but I'm a pretty formidable opponent, or so I've been told."
John wasn't quite ready to tell Rodney that, in addition to his deportment tutor, his dance tutor, his French tutor, and an army of riding instructors, he'd had a chess tutor. "I've been told I'm not so bad myself. I'm interesting into getting to know you and your brain, Rodney."
"Really?"
"And also your penis, but that didn't seem like a first-date kind of thing."
Rodney lit up. "Me too! I mean, um, food?"
John leaned across the table and kissed him softly, then sat back. "Yeah. Let's start with food. We'll need the energy later." And just because he was feeling a little brave, he winked.

Thank you so much for this, I love it to bits!

Date: 2017-02-12 03:57 pm (UTC)JJ trusts Marsha Sumner, has served alongside her for a long time, but she knows what Marsha's like, and she knows Joan will get under her skin in all the worst ways.
Danielle made a compelling point, though. Sheppard has the gene even stronger than JJ does, and the Ancients in the city will be most willing to talk to her. Clara Beckett is too flinchy around Ancient Tech to be much willing to engage with it, and Danielle is pretty sure that the Ancients will have some kind of worthiness test involving the gene, so Sheppard needs to go.
And, Danielle points out, quietly, once Marsha and Hannah Landry have stormed out of the conference room, Sheppard has nothing tying her to Earth.
So JJ agrees to send Sheppard to another galaxy on a potential one-way trip. To try to soften things out, though, she approves of Marsha's choice in Aiden Ford as a 2IC. Ford's young and enthusiastic in that Marine way that JJ has always found a little disturbing, but she's done well on her gate teams in the past, and she's quick-thinking, adaptable, and in an unknown galaxy, the expedition will need her skills and, in the event something happens to Marsha, her leadership.
JJ really, really wishes Major Evanna Lorne had agreed to go along on the Expedition, because she's steady and dependable and a problem-solver, but she has family ties here on Earth, and given that the expedition may well be a one-way trip, JJ isn't going to force the issue.
So she signs off on the military personnel list Elijah submitted, and then she rounds up Carter and Drey'auc and Danielle, and they head over to Walter Reed.
Cammie Mitchell is still recovering from her nasty crash in Antarctica. Carter was there when President Hayes presented her with the Medal of Honor. JJ knows Danielle has been going to visit, has been reading old mission reports to Cammie in her lucid moments. Drey'auc wishes to thank the brave pilot who helped finally free the Jaffa Nation for good. JJ hopes the kid gets better. She remembers Francine Mitchell from flight school, knows what happened in Francine's test crash, and she hopes Cammie doesn't suffer the same fate as her mother.
If Cammie gets back on her feet, JJ will make sure she gets any posting she wants, or the sweetest retirement deal the Air Force can swing.
JJ is ridiculously pleased, months later, when she hears Cammie is back on her feet and undergoing ruthless PT and that, when she fully recovers, she wants to join SG-1.
JJ is even more pleased when, a few months after that, she gets word: the Daedalus made contact with Atlantis. Elijah Weir and most of the rest are alive.
Most. Joan Sheppard has been the interim commander of Atlantis. Marsha is dead, and JJ mourns for her, but something in her is fiercely glad that Joan has done so well for Atlantis. So she does something that makes Hannah Landry and Rita Woolsey freak out: she recommends Joan Sheppard for a promotion.
Re: Fill: Stargate Multiverse
Date: 2017-02-12 08:55 pm (UTC)I like JJ's POV here, and how she notes the reasons pro and con for Joan going to Atlantis. And then how happy she is to find out how well Joan has done as a leader.
Nicely done!

But oh, childless JJ going through the gate for the very first time just about killed me...
