There is nothing like being buried under an avalanche of heavy, happy fur and a long wet tongue. Mouse made a keening sound and his tail thrashed from side to side.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm happy to see you, too," I told him. I was. I thumped his ribs for emphasis which just started up another round of kissing.

"Ee-yuch," I said, ever the wordsmith. "You do know I've only been gone a day - not even that, right?"

Mouse reared back to cock his head at me. For a second, I thought I saw a glimmer of intelligence far beyond the doggy norms - then it was gone as Mouse ducked down to give me another long-tongued kiss.
