Tuesday's Greetings
Mar. 14th, 2017 01:30 amAnd again, hello! I’m
aivix and today's theme is Greeting Card Messages. Everyone's gotten greeting cards, be they birthday or get well, at some point and let's face it, some of those messages are just plain perfect for prompts! Bring on the funny, the sympathetic, and the weird that have come from the outside and inside of those cards!
(Need some ideas? Here's a website with lots of them! http://www.greeting-card-messages.com/)
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate: SG-1, Jack O'Neill/Samantha Carter or Jack O'Neill/Daniel Jackson, Your wedding is actually the coming together of love and destiny.
+ Reign, Any, Snowy days are here to stay, Get your mittens and let's go play.
+ X-Men First Class, Charles Xavier/Erik Lensherr, Nothing comes close to how I feel when I hold you close.
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2017 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2017-03-14 09:11 am (UTC)Fill. Stargate Multiverse, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay. Royalty AU.
Date: 2017-03-14 08:19 pm (UTC)Omnus omnium amores.
Rodney had kept it, the little slip of paper.
It should have been submitted to the Archives for historical preservation, as all recordings and litera from the ordeal had: it was not often that the King was stolen, imprisoned, nearly eaten by a Wraith prisoner, and returned home hale and hearty.
(Evan wouldn't be allowing John from his sight for a long while. Nor, John soon learned, would Rodney, Elizabeth, Jeannie, or Carson.
Amelia didn't need to see him to know where he was, as she'd refused to unlatch from her father and had slept the entire three days since he'd come home to them, literally on his chest.)
There was no one from the Archives who was willing to fight him for it, however, and no one dared speak about it either. Instead, it was a polite request that hung in the air and he diligently ignored in favor of ensuring Evan upped John's security escort the next time he went off to visit an outlying world.
(“Rodney, this is a little bit... super altissimo.”
He pointedly looked at Amelia, who had her arms wrapped around him and her face buried in his neck. “Shall we review—again—how she was while you were captive?”
A snort from the opposite side of the table was all the commentary John needed to know that Carson would also soon remind John of how Rodney was while he had been gone.)
So the scrap of paper remained with Rodney, the words inked on it in their King's terrible penmanship something he kept close. If he ever turned it over to them, then the Bibliothecae Prefectus would gladly log and preserve it, but she didn't expect that to happen for many years, if ever.
Instead, she asked Evan and Elizabeth, if only for the sake of history, to tell her the contents of the note the King had sent to his Consort. Evan, loyal to the last, refused, but Elizabeth gave that soft smile of hers and said, “It was nothing of militarium.”
“Oh?”
She leaned in close, murmuring, “On the record, it was a note between spouses.”
Norina sighed to herself more than anything. “And between us? As friends?”
(The Archive went devoid of any notations on that specific litera, but years down the line, when John and Rodney were laid to rest and their daughter was Queen, Norina would write three words into the computer as her last act before retiring.)

Date: 2017-03-14 09:17 am (UTC)FILL: Eyewitness, Philip/Lukas, falling in love, first kiss
Date: 2017-09-16 03:30 pm (UTC)On this night, he wonders... Can love be heard like a love song, the same as it is felt? Can the tips of his fingers tingle with the caress of soft skin? Can one smile from Philip weaken Lukas at the knees, make his own heart be heard like the beating of a war drum? Anything is possible with the power of love.
The beat of his heart shows everlasting love for only one soul; it skips a beat when Philip is near. And so there he stands before Philip, Lukas pressed their foreheads together as tremor vibrate through him. Philip flushes hotly as warmth radiates from his heart and runs through his body like a firestorm. Lukas beautiful gaze finds him, eyes shimmering with pure devotion, and Philip smiles bashfully. Lukas’ fingertips brush over his cheek, stroking tenderly, and the sweetheart touch lights a fire underneath his skin, leaves him breathless, shaken.
Lukas swears he can hear Philip’s heart beating faster and faster with every passing second as they stand so close he feels Philip’s warm breath ghosting over his lips. Unable to resist the love warming in his heart, he leans forward, their lips meeting gently.
A touch of softness like velvet graced his lips as he felt Philip’s arms slide around his waist to pull him closer, their lips dancing for what felt like forever until the need for air parted them. They remain close, noses bumping softly, their lips once again meeting for a sweet kiss as a smile graced their cheeks.

Date: 2017-03-14 09:21 am (UTC)Fill. The Great Wall (2017), William/Tovar [1/2]
Date: 2017-03-15 04:32 am (UTC)*
in one another's shelter
*
On the surface their banter hadn't changed, but William knew better after so many months of travel together. There were subjects Tovar was choosing to avoid; topics of conversation that dragged down the corners of his mouth and drove him from William's side with some convenient excuse.
It didn't surprise him; a lot had happened since they'd lost their last companions to a monster in the dark and run straight into the path of an unimaginable war. Both of them had made choices that defied their expectations of one another-- and, speaking for himself at least, of themselves as well. It was only natural that Tovar didn't want to speak of such matters in front of their prettily armored escorts.
But the further West they rode, the closer they came to the inevitable decision of what to do next. William hadn't forgotten Tovar's joking reminders that they'd have been enemies back home, and the question was still up in the air whether they would be again, at the end of their journey.
He hoped not; the events that had overtaken him at the Wall, and in Bianjing, had made him consider his future as he hadn't in years. Tovar wasn't wrong: they were liars, thieves, and killers. But that didn't mean there wasn't room for other things, too. William could have gone home a very rich man; the amount of black powder the Emperor had promised would have set him up with land, money, women, anything he could have asked for. But in order to get it-- he would have had to leave Tovar to die.
If any of it had meant anything at all... then the answer had been inevitable. He could no more have condemned his friend than he could have missed a shot from his bow. But whether or not they stayed together would depend greatly on why Tovar had left him behind.
His chance to ask finally came when Lin's soldiers left them at the edge of the steppes, a day's ride from the nearest outpost where they might contact their people. The stars were bright pinpricks overhead, and the flames lit red-gold highlights in Tovar's dark, tousled hair as they sat around the fire; William watched the shadows shift over his friend's strong, familiar face, and pointedly cleared his throat.
Tovar must have been expecting such a gesture; his posture grew stiff as he looked up from the stick he was poking into the coals to meet William's gaze. Then he shook his head, expression wry.
"Have you thought, yet, of what message you will send your company?"
"I had not thought to tell them anything," William shrugged. "They will assume me dead; and in truth, it is better so. I will not lift my bow for a petty man's war ever again."
"And if they know you live, they will not leave such a renowned warrior alone," Tovar finished the thought, a bitter note underlying the words. "Still intent on playing the hero, then."
William sighed. "I'm not playing at anything. And I'd just as soon word of that doesn't make it back West, either. I didn't do what I did for the fame."
"No," Tovar replied, dark, solemn eyes scanning William's face. "That much I would have been blind not to notice."

Date: 2017-03-15 04:49 am (UTC)And there was a sketch inside the card, of David running and a Wraith chasing him. It was really, really well done. He fell asleep cuddling it.
But then he got another card the next time things went wrong offworld (congratulations! You got shanghaied into alien marriage again!), and inside was a lovely hand-drawn picture of David, covered in poison ivy, holding hands with a miserable-looking teen bride.
When he went to ask Stevens about it - since Stevens had given him the last card - Stevens was nowhere to be found.
But Lorne was slumped at his desk in the team office, pen in hand, a stack of generic Hallmark cards at his elbow. The messages inside were scratched out (happy birthday became congrats on not puking your first time in a jumper) and there were individualized sketches inside (Captain Kennedy puking and Zelenka without eyebrows). Lorne's fingers were stained with ink, and he looked exhausted.
David scooped up the pile of cards and saw that there were sticky notes inside, listing incidents and people who were involved in them, and also some suggestions (good luck on your first negotiation with spear-wielding natives?).
He smiled as he read through them - until he came to one with a sketch of Collins and the message in it was for McKay. It read command decisions are the hardest; not the first, won't be the last; keep your chin up.
He set the cards down and ducked out of the office and dreaded the next time he received a card - or Lorne had to draw one about him.
