Wednesday is Untranslatable
Mar. 15th, 2017 01:30 amHappy hump day!
aivix back again with today's theme of untranslatable or obscure words. I don't mean the 10-dollar words we like to whip out now and then, I mean those words from other cultures that cannot be translated into another language. We've all seen them in articles that float the net and here are a few links to some lists of them: 30 Untranslatable Words From Other Languages, 38 Wonderful Words With No English Equivalent, and 40 Words For Emotions You’ve Felt, But Couldn’t Explain.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Harry Potter, Harry Potter or Neville Longbottom, Shlimazl (a chronically unlucky person)
+ Stargate: Atlantis, John Sheppard or Rodney McKay, Fernweh (feeling homesick for a place you've never been)
+ MCU, Any, Backpfeifengesicht (a face badly in need of a fist)
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2017 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Re: No fill
Date: 2017-03-16 07:35 am (UTC)FILL: Wanda/Natasha - Waiting
Date: 2017-03-16 03:22 pm (UTC)She stepped onto the balcony to look at the bustling street below, but there was still no sign of the other woman. She gave a sigh and headed back inside. She had thought about making up something for lunch, but Natasha had suggested they would go out and get something to eat so she refrained.
Wanda kept stepping out onto the balcony to check for Natasha's car, feeling more and more anxious as the clock moved closer and closer to the time Natasha said she would be there.
Finally, she heard a knock on the door and quickly moved to open the door, smiling when she saw Natasha on the other side. "Hi," Wanda said, stepping aside to let her in.
Natasha smiled and walked inside, pressing a kiss to Wanda's cheek. "Hi."
FILL: Steve/Thor
Date: 2017-03-16 03:32 pm (UTC)Steve's fingers moved gently through Thor's hair, carefully untangling the knots and taking the braids out of his hair as they sat together in the tub. He was straddling Thor's lap, watching the God as he animatedly talked about Asgard.
After a moment, he was unable to help himself and silenced Thor with a kiss, his fingers still running through Thor's hair. It still amazed him that even after battle, the man's hair remained so soft and beautiful.
He pulled back and smiled at Thor as he grabbed the shampoo and poured some on his hands before he was running his fingers through Thor's hair again. Thor just smiled and him, peppering kisses along Steve's neck and distracting him.

FILL: Eyewitness, Lukas/Philip, falling in love/kissing
Date: 2017-03-18 05:08 pm (UTC)Lukas softens his desire, tender lips replacing the biting teeth. He kisses Philip gently, soft like velvet and sweet like honey as he strokes his hands up and down the sleek curve of Philip’s spine.
They lay together like that for a long a while, sharing tender kisses and happy smiles, both sated and tired, sleepiness lurking around the corner of their consciousness. Even if they were slipping off to sleep, Philip smiles brightly knowing he will see Lukas in his dreams, kissing the man he loves with all of his heart.

Fill
Date: 2017-03-28 02:43 am (UTC)Daryl is jerked out of his own thoughts by Tara’s words. “Huh? Nothin’. Mind your business.” He makes his way towards the gate, Tara trailing behind.
“You were staring at Jesus,” she presses. “Again. Still. Not gonna lie, you’re making us a little nervous.”
Daryl pauses, letting her catch up. “Nervous? What the hell for? Jesus and I are square.”
“Exactly,” Tara says, arms crossed over her chest. She arches an eyebrow. “So it’s not an angry stare. It’s a…something-else stare.”
“You’re something else,” he grumbles, banging on the main gate, asking to be let in. Jesus, Aaron, and the rest of their crew follow close behind, talking and laughing after a successful run. “It ain’t right is all.”
“What’s not right?”
“Lookin’ that good,” Daryl hisses under his breath, face going red under his hair. “All smiling and blue eyes and nice hair. Distracting as all hell.” He shoulders his crossbow, looking as embarrassed as Tara has ever seen him. “Don’t have time for this.”
“Uh huh,” Tara says, turning the information over, wondering mildly if she’s having a stroke. “So you’re pissed because you think Jesus is…cute?”
“We’re done here,” Daryl says as the gate creaks open.
“Wait,” Tara gasps, running after him, “I have so many questions!”
As the rest of the crew filters in, Aaron frowns after Daryl and Tara, who are heading towards Rick’s place. He turns to Jesus. “What’s up with those two?”
Jesus just smiles, looking like the cat who got the canary. “He’s mad because I’m flirting with him.”
Aaron shakes his head. “I feel like we shouldn’t have time for these things, but here we are.”
“Yep,” Jesus agrees, taking off after Daryl and Tara, pulling his hair back in a ponytail. “And here I go.”

poem
Date: 2017-10-18 06:06 pm (UTC)I knew from the beginning,
I think, a dozen little warnings
I ignored, small things
I could avoid thinking about because
I was caught up in the whirlwind that is you.
I knew. I’ve always known. It shouldn’t hurt this much.
.
You amaze me, you thrill me,
You love me so fiercely, so ferociously,
You deny your father and you refuse your name,
You write poetry and sing loudly,
You touch me and I feel stars burst in the heavens but
You know, too, don’t you?
You’ve always known. It shouldn’t hurt this much.
.
I will let you go;
You will leave.
We’ll remember fondly, won’t we?
The hurt won’t last, not even a hurt this bad.
I love you and you love me
But this time, love is not enough.
1 sentence fill, Prison Break
Date: 2017-10-18 06:09 pm (UTC)"You know you're crazy, right?" he hears a lot as they dig, even when Linc is there, solid beside him, "I mean, I love my brother, don't get me wrong, but this? I wouldn't break his fool ass outta nothin'," and Michael catches Lincoln's eye and smiles because for the moment, everything is right on schedule.
