Miércoles: Small Fandoms
Jul. 19th, 2017 12:50 amHappy Wednesday, everyone! I’m
schweinsty and today's theme is small fandoms. Let's show some more obscure media some love! Prompts can be anything, but must be for a smaller fandom--'smaller' being up to your discretion (please don't prompt, say, Force Awakens or MCU, but fandoms don't need to be Yuletide-sized to count).
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+The Illusionist, Sophie von Teschen, For the first time in years, she feels like she can breathe
+Nicholas Nickleby (book or 2002 film), Nicholas Nickleby + any except Smike, Unexpected, exhaustion-induced naps
+Eureka, Jack Carter + any, A day off that actually goes as planned
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2017 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2017-07-19 04:47 pm (UTC)Magnus smirked at him, not answering him as he focused his attention back on the book in his lap.
Alec got up and walked over to Magnus, looking over his shoulder at the book. Poems? Magnus was reading poems. Not something Alec was expecting. Shaking his head he returned to his seat, picking up the magazine he'd been reading.
"Do you ever think about true love?" Magnus was staring at him, waiting for an answer.
"Yes, I'd like to think it's a possibility." He stopped himself from saying anything else. Alec got a far away look in his eyes. He wasn't sure where this conversation was going. Was Magnus trying to tell him this wasn't true love between them?
His thoughts were interrupted. "I love this last part from a poem by Ryan Williams." Magnus read the lines from the book, not making eye contact.
I hope one day true love takes flight
With no intent to land
With me forever lost in love
And you holding my hand
"It reminds me of us." The words were murmured, nearly whispered but Alec heard them. His eyes widened, looking at Magnus. He saw the blush tinging the man's skin a light shade of pink.
Alec found himself standing up and moving back over to Magnus. He reached down and took Magnus' hand in his, pulling him up. He drew him in for a kiss. Their lips meeting, tongues fighting for the other's mouth. They only broke apart when the need to breath overwhelmed them.
"I know I've had other relationships." Magnus' words were cut off by Alec.
"We've never defined this. This thing between us. Never felt the need to. But, I do love you. And I think this could be true love."
Magnus looked at the man, arms encircling his waist, pulling him closer. "Yeah, I think it is true love."

Date: 2017-07-20 01:04 am (UTC)Eric has a work thing, of course--because podcasting is the next big thing, apparently, so a podcast they must make--but Scot makes a sad, pouty face and picks at his dinner and Eric manages to reschedule. To a lunch he'd been planning on trying out a new place with Nula on, but it makes Scot beam like a Christmas tree and--well, that's fatherhood, Eric supposes.
(Fatherhood, of course, being a word he's only recently come to grips with; 'guardian' is one thing; 'guardian' is easy to come to grips with. But 'fatherhood' has baggage. It's heavy. It keeps him up after a maitre d' makes an offhand comment to him and Sam about their son. He lies awake all night while Sam, naturally, sleeps like a dead man. His shoulder aches like hell the rest of the day from tossing and turning on it, and Sam gives him a very unimpressed Look when it comes out that evening after an unsuccessful attempt at moving a box of magazines Scot's collecting for a project.)
Anyway. He reschedules the meeting, and they make it to the school forty minutes early. Sam remembers the camera but forgets the memory card, so they take pictures with the camera on Eric's fancy new phone (5 Megapixels, and there's enough memory to take plenty).
It's not a long play--a 15-minute retelling of The 12 Dancing Princesses--but it comes at the end of the program, after dances set to 'Twinkle Twinkle' and 'Happy and You Know It' by the younger grades, as well as a group of tiny ones singing a nursery rhyme medley very badly. Eric's--Eric's not used to being out, yet, in public, but he's trying, and after spending the dancing and singing bits with Sam's arm across the back of his shoulders, he tugs Sam's hand down to rest palm-up on his thigh and laces their fingers together.
He almost lets go when Scot, who's supposed to be one of the princes, comes out on stage having swapped outfits with one of the princesses, but Sam's grip tightens, and Eric settles down.
A couple of people in the audience laugh--Eric sees Sam giving them a raised-eyebrow of disapproval, and it's his turn to squeeze Sam's hand--but Scot ignores them, swings around a plastic sword very enthusiastically, and says his line about rescuing the beautiful princess right on cue.
Everybody claps when it's over. Sam claps with one hand on his phone, snapping picture after picture as Scot and the girl in the prince outfit shake hands solemnly and bow with the other kids.
"Tanya doesn't like dresses," Scot explains in the car, having been persuaded to change out of the dress with the promise of ice-cream with all the toppings he wants on it on the way home. "We're approximately the same size, and the coloring was much more flattering with my hair color. Even Jimmy said so."
"Well," says Sam, "If Jimmy said so."
"You did great, Buddy," Eric says. He turns and presents his hand for a high-five, which is gravely given.
Scot's out like a light by the time they make it home, dead weight with still-sticky ice-cream and syrup on his fingers. Eric takes him in and up to his room, ignoring the twinge of pain.
"He's too heavy for that," Sam tells him when he rubs his shoulder while undressing.
He's not, clearly, but he will be soon; he's grown three inches already since he came, and they're going to have to go shoe-shopping--again--next weekend.
Eric's only picked him up a few times, but he realizes with a start that he's going to miss it when he can't.
"Just this once," he says, which is a big fat lie. There's a smear of chocolate ice-cream on his neck, and a lime green feather from Scot's boa in his hair.
That's fatherhood, too.
There are worse things in the world, he supposes.

Date: 2017-07-19 03:45 pm (UTC)Watching Simon, at least he thought that's what his name was. Amy had mention a new boyfriend and he was the only one around Kieren didn't know. The man intrigued him. He found himself smiling as he watched. Realizing how strange it was to be watching two people talking. He was just about to leave when he made a realization.
He had his sketch pad with him. If he was going to watch the man, why not draw him? At least he'd have something to do and to look at afterwards. Chances of seeing this man again weren't very high. The "Rotters" as they were called didn't tend to survive long. Either decay started in, they were killed (again) or shipped off to one of the camps. Kieren shuddered at that thought.
Opening his bag, he grabbed the sketch pad and pencils. He flipped to a blank page and began to draw the man. He wished he'd thought to bring colored pencils with him. But, he'd make due with the different shades of the charcoal pencils he had.
As he sketched he felt himself begin to relax. Contentment settling in. He looked up a few times making sure he'd captured the likeness of the man. Their eyes met briefly. He would have blushed if he'd been able to. He smiled and went back to his sketching. He remembered loving to draw before all of this happened to him and really wanted to get his life back.
He'd gotten lost in his thoughts and the drawing. He looked up to see Amy sitting alone. She had her cell phone out and was lost in what she was doing. Looking back down at the drawing, he frowned. Not because it wasn't accurate, it was. But, the man was gone.
"Are you drawing me?" The sound of the voice made Kieren jump. He hadn't realized the man had walked up behind him.
Kieren looked up into the eyes that had first caught his attention and smiled. "Yeah, I am." He started to close the sketch pad. Simon came around and sat down on the bench next to him.
"No, don't put it away. I want to see it."
Sheepishly, Kieren handed over the sketch. Simon looked at it in awe.
"This is really good." He smiled at Kieren. "I'm Simon, by the way. Simon Monroe."
"Kieren. Kieren Walker."
