TGI AU Friday!
Aug. 11th, 2017 10:23 amGood Friday one and all, I'm still
classics_lover and I'm the host for one more day. Today's theme is Change One Thing AU. Prompts must involve one thing, significant or not, that did not take place in canon. Have fun with it!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Tortall, Kel (+/ author's choice), Kel stayed in the Yamani Islands and trained in Yamani martial arts instead of Page training
+ Dragon Age, the Hawke family, Carver and Bethany both survived the ogre
+ Hawaii Five-0, Danny Williams/Steve McGarrett, Danny has a dog
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2017 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2017-08-30 10:39 pm (UTC)Accepting the job Steve McGarrett offered him as his partner in a new task force was a no-brainer for Chin. Chin had known the McGarrett family for years, and Steve’s father had been a mentor to him as a police officer before his untimely demise. Serving in a new task force with Steve was definitely better than selling trinkets to tourists, and he was grateful that Steve, much like his father, took Chin at his word and believed in his innocence despite the rumors swirling around him.
Steve had his quirks, but Chin was adjusting fairly easily to working with his new partner. This new task force had “full immunity and means,” and Steve was more familiar with the Navy SEAL mode of dealing with suspects than typical law enforcement procedure. Chin tried to gently coach Steve whenever possible and also attempted to rationally dissuade Steve when he wanted to do something that would be out of bounds (like dangling a suspect off a roof). Steve also drove his car like a crazy person, but that didn't bother Chin. He had long since gotten used to recklesss drivers thanks to his cousin Kono.
On the more positive end of the spectrum, Chin noticed that Steve often arrived at work at least fifteen minutes before the work day actually started. That punctuality had probably been instilled by years of military service. Most mornings, Chin would come into work and find Steve filling out paperwork or working at his computer in his office. He always left out cups of coffee for him and Kono from this place Chin had never been to before called “Williams Family Bakery.” Donuts or other pastries were often included as well. At first, Chin didn’t think that Steve’s choice of bakery was particularly remarkable. After all, the coffee and pastries were incredibly delicious. But one day, while they were driving out to the North Shore, Chin spotted the bakery about a block before they arrived at the crime scene and became confused. The bakery was nowhere near the Palace or Steve’s house, and Chin didn’t understand why Steve would drive so far out of his way every morning just to get coffee and donuts.
Chin mentioned his puzzlement to Kono the next morning, who laughed and picked up a malasada from the box Steve had brought in about twenty minutes earlier.
“Who knows? Maybe he’s got a crush on the owner.”
Chin shook his head with a grin. “I think you’ve been watching too many rom-coms, cuz.”
Kono shrugged. “Maybe. But why else would he go out of his way like that?”
For a couple of weeks, the mystery of the bakery remained unsolved, until one Friday morning after a long and grueling overnight stakeout. The case had been solved, and Chin and Steve were on their way back to the office when Steve spotted the bakery down the road.
Steve smiled over at Chin, appearing a lot more alert than he had just a few seconds ago. “Hey, you want to stop for some coffee before we head back to the office?”
Chin yawned and nodded. “Sure.” He was exhausted, and some coffee would probably be a good idea since the team still had a lot of paper work to deal with after their case. Plus, he was still kind of curious about why this was Steve’s favorite place to get breakfast.
Steve pulled into one of the empty parking spots in front of the store and parked the car. Chin followed Steve as he quickly exited the car and practically bounded towards the entrance of the shop and chuckled under his breath at how his partner was acting like an eager puppy. Maybe Kono hadn’t been too far off the mark after all.

Date: 2017-08-11 11:44 pm (UTC)A lot of people have died in his life but none of them had been Maes Hughes, who'd figured out what the military, what the Fuhrer, what the homunculi wanted.
And now, one of those homunculi, Hughes' murderer, squalls and howls, trying all the possible tricks to keep breathing.
Roy isn't going to let it live. It tried impersonating Hawkeye. It tried impersonating him. It even tried to impersonate Hughes - but he was dead and Roy furiously reminded the creature of its part in Hughes' death.
Finally, the creature returns to its true form, that of a tiny lizard thing. Fullmetal and the Ishbalan try to stop him but the rage burns too hot. Even Hawkeye's shout is lost in the flames consuming him. Roy raises his hand - right for precision - and snaps his fingers.
The homunculus fries under Roy's flame and for a second, the stink of burning flesh reminds him of Ishbal - the war these creatures instigated - and then, there's nothing left but ash.
"You killed it." Fullmetal's voice is hushed, quieter than Roy's ever heard the boy speak before.
The sharp metallic click of a safety being flipped makes Roy's head jerk. He doesn't turn. He doesn't want to distract her. Fullmetal lets out a yelp and the deep, rough voice of the Ishbalan creates an undercurrent to the boy's higher pitched cries.
"Sir," Hawkeye says. There is a tremor in her voice. "You killed it. It was helpless."
Roy isn't going to argue. He knows what he's ordered Hawkeye to do.
Fullmetal screams as Hawkeye pulls the trigger.

Date: 2017-08-11 06:58 pm (UTC)Magnus stopped speaking. Alec hadn't been paying attention at all. Crap! Those lips had stopped moving. He brought his hands to his face and rubbed at his forehead, fingers digging into his skin to bring him out of his trance.
"Are you ok? You're face is red." The look of concern in Magnus' eyes showing as he stood in front of Alec.
"Ah, yeah, it's just . . . I'm a little hot. Are you hot? It's hot in here, right?" He was babbling. Like an idiot. Ok, get a grip. Alec turned and walked to the double doors leading to the balcony. He opened them, feeling the cool night air against his burning skin. He gulped in a breath, trying to calm himself down.
"Ok." He heard Magnus say in an uncertain voice. Yeah, right. He believed the crap that came out of my mouth as much as Alec did. If Alec could face palm himself right about now he would have. Why did he have to get so flustered around Magnus?
"Would you like some water? To help you cool down." Not waiting for Alec to answer he retreated to his kitchen. A few minutes later Magnus returned with a glass full of ice and a pitcher of water. He placed both down on the table before pouring some into the glass and handed it to Alec.
Alec grabbed the water and downed it in three long sips. Magnus watched the muscles of Alec's throat as he drank the water. He sighed at the sight, wanting to lick or bite the skin. Preferably wanting to do both. He turned away before Alec saw him staring. Clearly, Alec was not interested in him. He always moved away from him. Found a way to distance himself from his touch or even his presence when they were in the same room. Like he had a few minutes ago. So, Alec didn't care for him. He wasn't the first Shadowhunter to show his dislike for downworlders and he wouldn't be the last. Magnus would overlook it and deal with the task at hand.
"So as I was saying."
Alec looked at those lips again and the shifted his gaze to look anything else. He still couldn't get himself to pay attention to what was being said. No matter how hard he tried to concentrate. It just wasn't working.
"You're not even paying attention. What are you looking at?" Magnus huffed out, letting his irritation seep through.
Alec looked up to meet his glaring eyes. "Your lips. I'm staring at your lips." His eyes widened in disbelief. Had he really just said that? He caught the look of confusion on Magnus' face. Before he had time to think, he was speaking again. "I was wondering. I'm mean. What if we kissed?" There he's said it.
The next thing Alec knew, there were two hands pulling on his shirt, bringing him closer to Magnus. Magnus leaned in and kissed him. He melted against the warmth. Against the lips he'd been so enamored with. And he returned the kiss. When Magnus broke the kiss, they both gasped for breath.
"Wow. Just, wow." That was all Alec could think to say.
Magnus' quirked an eyebrow at the words. Wow? What did he mean by that? He stood there, looking at Alec, not knowing what to do. He watched as Alec took a step back and started to turn away. He felt anger beginning to rise in him.
Alec turned around, face flushed with desire. He closed the distance between them and crashed his lips against Magnus' lips. He felt Magnus bring his arms up to circle his waist as he did the same.
"I've been wanting to do this for awhile now." Alec said in a small whisper as he kissed Magnus' neck.
Magnus smiled and nipped at Alec's neck. "And I've been wanting to do that since I met you."

“You really don’t have to do this, Win,” Ed said. He was standing over the transmutation circle, the most complicated one he and Al have ever drawn. It was beautiful; straight lines and perfect circles and spirals and symbols. He was never any good at drawing; Alphonse was better than him but it still wasn’t their expertise, but when it came to drawing Alchemy their skill was flawless. Not that they were bragging or anything (although sometimes they did; at least, Ed did) but it was just a simple fact.
Next to him, he could hear the excited inhales and exhales of his partners. Alphonse to his left, Winry to his right.
“I know. But I want to. I want to get you two off grandma’s back,” she smiled, and Ed glanced at her, sticking his tongue out. He knew she was joking, trying to lighten up the tense atmosphere; after all, it wasn’t every day someone tried to bring his mother back from the dead using Alchemy. Or anything at all, for that matter. Especially not two eleven years olds and one ten years old kid. He was excited and scared and he knew the other two were, as well.
On his left, Alphonse moved a little bit. Somehow Ed had the feeling he didn’t get the joke. “We can just move out – “
“I was just joking, Al,” Winry clarified. Obviously the tension was getting to all of them.
“Oh.”
Ed let out an annoyed huff. “Let’s just get it started with, okay? I miss Mom.” His words were followed by a short silence, and then a unison of agreement. He swallowed. “All that’s left is the information about the soul.”
Ed glanced at his brother, who nodded in return. They both walked towards the center of the circle, where the ingredients they brought rested in a pile. Ed reached towards the back pocket of his shorts and took out a knife. He raised his left hand, placing it right above the pile, before he took the knife and with clenched teeth cut a line on his palm, allowing his blood to drip on the pile. It created little dark spots where it hit it, soaking into the different ingredients. He watched it for a moment before he turned towards his little brother. Alphonse looked scared, but determined. He reached his hand and looked directly at Ed. “Can you do this for me?” he asked, his voice a little bit shaky, but his stare fierce. Ed swallowed and nodded. He didn’t like the idea of cutting his little brother’s hand, but they have decided on this long ago, and have both been working extremely hard just to get to this moment. He knew that even if Alphonse wasn’t sure he could make the cut himself, there were no second thoughts. He knew Al missed their mother just as much as he did. So he reached with his injured hand, holding on his little brother’s wrist and trying his hardest not to touch him with the wound.
“This is going to sting a bit,” he warned, and waited for Alphonse’s nod before he pressed the knife to the delicate skin. He heard Alphonse’s sharp intake of air but continued anyway until the cut was as deep as the matching one on Ed’s hand. As soon as blood came out Alphonse placed his hand the same way Ed did a moment earlier, the marks of their bloods combining. He drew his hand back after a moment, clenching it in a fist.
The stepped out of the array, joining Winry at its edge. As if on a cue, all three children kneeled, placing their palms on the outer line. Ed glanced at Winry before he looked at his little brother. “Okay. Let’s do it,” he said, a smile spreading on his lips despite the stinging pain in his palm. That was it. The moment they’ve been working so hard for for years. They were going to see Mom again. He was thrilled and anxious, scared but excited.
