Fill : The Flash, Joe/Caitlin
Date: 2017-08-19 08:43 pm (UTC)As always after a skirmish with the Big Bad of the week, Joe insists on getting stitched up last. It used to be because he was more worried about his kids' injuries than his own, wanted them to be taken care of first. More recently, it's been because he gets to spend a little extra time with Caitlin and, given his kids' mixed reactions to the change in their relationship, they're usually only too happy to book it and leave the two of them alone.
That's what's happened tonight and as Caitlin stitches up the cut along Joe's hairline, he can't help but notice that her jaw is set a little more tightly than usual, that her hand is trembling slightly, something he's never seen it do before. It's weird, because yeah, the fight had been bad, but in terms of what they've been through, they've definitely had worse. He doesn't ask her about it, figures he'll get it out of her later at her place but when she finishes his stitches, snips the thread, she doesn't give him her usual smile and promise to kiss him better later.
Instead she braces herself against the gurney with one hand while her other goes to her side. She bends over, lets out a little noise that she hastily stifles and he's on his feet before he can remember moving, lifting up her shirt. He makes his own noise at the large bandage he sees wrapped around her waist, the scarlet stain seeping through the pristine white.
"Sweetheart, you're bleeding."
She narrows her eyes and glares at him. "Tell me something I don't know." The second the words leave her lips, she closes her eyes. "I'm sorry." Opening her eyes again, she looks down at the bandage, sucks in a deep breath. "OK, it was not this bad an hour ago."
Joe slips an arm around her waist and she leans into his shoulder. "Guess it's true... doctors do make the worst patients."
He knows she's in pain but he gets a lot less worried when she rolls her eyes at that. "I can take care of it," she says and his jaw drops.
"You're not going to stitch yourself-"
"Are you going to do it?" His stomach flips at the thought of it and she nods. "Thought not. Look, this isn't the first time..." She winces, clutches at her stomach again. "It'll be fine."
He looks at her, then looks at the wound, weighing it up. He could bring her to a hospital but that would mean a delay in treatment, not to mention a painful car journey. Or he could let her do what he knows she's done more than once, even if he doesn't like it. He meets her dark eyes and makes his decision. "Sit up there," he says. "Tell me what I need to get you and where it is." Relief floods her face as he helps her sit and he steals her usual line. "I'll kiss you better when we get home."
A pained smile creeps across her face and it might even be from his cheesy line. "Can I get s down payment on that now?"
He grins, brushes his lips over hers. "No problem."

FILL: Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, 8.01 spoilers, 1/2
Date: 2017-08-30 06:13 am (UTC)Danny laughed as Steve steered him forward, his hand covering Danny’s eyes so that he couldn’t see. “Babe, are you ever going to tell me where you’re taking me?”
“Soon,” Steve said next to the shell of Danny’s right ear. “You’ve just got to try to be patient, okay? I know that’s hard for you, but—”
Danny chuckled, hoping it concealed the way he reacted to Steve holding him from behind and whispering to him like that. He reminded himself that it was just Steve being a goof and trying to give Danny some kind of surprise. There was no reason for Danny to try to read something into Steve’s behavior that wasn’t there.
Not that such a consideration had ever stopped Danny before. He couldn’t help overanalyzing his relationship with Steve, mind battling between foolish optimism and cynical, depressing realism. In most areas of his life, Danny tended towards the latter, but he couldn’t when it came to Steve. It comes with the territory of being hopelessly in love with someone for seven years. Danny had spent many lonely nights staring at his ceiling thinking about something heartfelt Steve had said, some glance that almost lingered, or some innocuous touch and vainly attempting to not get his hopes up.
Steve moved Danny a bit to the right, and then Danny heard the sound of a key turning in a lock. Steve pushed the door open, and then led Danny into a room with hard floors, like concrete. Danny coughed once and wrinkled his nose. Wherever Steve had led him smelled dusty.
Steve removed his hands from Danny’s eyes and stepped to the side. “You can open your eyes now.”
Danny did, frowning in confusion at the old, abandoned building Steve had led him into. The light from the window behind them illuminated the dust that had made Danny cough earlier. He stared around at the brick and the concrete, wondering what he was supposed to be seeing, until he caught sight of a counter that clued him in.
“A restaurant?” he asked. He didn’t understand.
“Not just any restaurant. Our restaurant, for when we retire and need to do something with the rest of our lives.” Steve grinned and gestured expansively at the space. “I bought this place.”
Danny gaped at him for several seconds. Once the initial shock had passed, he shook his head and blinked back the tears of happiness that were blurring his vision. “You bought me a restaurant? Steve, that’s—”
Steve shrugged and glanced at the counter. “It’s nothing, really. Mamo had a cousin who really wanted to sell this place, so I was able to get a good deal. I know it doesn’t look like much now, but with a little work, I think we’ll be able to fix it up.” He turned to Danny, a slightly nervous expression on his face. “Do you like it?”
Danny felt like leaping into Steve’s arms and kissing the living daylights out of him, but he held back that urge and settled for firmly clapping a hand on Steve’s shoulder. “It’s perfect.” He gazed out at the space, imagining it cleaned up and filled with tables with people eating meals together. “I can’t believe you did this for me.” He reluctantly let his hand fall from Steve’s shoulder and shook his head. “You know, you’ve really turned your mind around on this whole restaurant thing. You were the one saying this wouldn’t work at first.”
Danny had said the words lightly, but Steve obviously took them seriously. “I was just caught off guard at first.” He frowned. “I didn’t like the idea of you doing something without me, leaving me behind like that.”
Danny nodded. “I get that.” He’d never planned to leave Steve behind, but he hadn’t expected Steve to want to be so involved in his life, with the restaurant or the thousand other ways he’d gradually intertwined their lives. And he didn’t know how to ask Steve for more than this friendship that meant the world to him.
FILL: Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, 8.01 spoilers, 2/2
Date: 2017-08-30 06:14 am (UTC)Danny swallowed heavily. “Yeah. Of course.”
Steve’s free hand rose to cup Danny’s cheek and he stepped closer until only a few inches separated them. “I believe in you.” His gaze softened, and his thumb started moving in lazy circles on Danny’s cheek. “I believe in us. And that’s all that matters, alright?”
Danny couldn’t bring himself to agree and step away, even though he knew that would probably be the safest option. Steve was putting him under some kind of spell. Danny licked his lips nervously. “What’s happening?” It couldn’t be what Danny thought, right?
Steve glanced down at Danny’s lips, and then he looked back up into Danny’s eyes. His gaze was darkened with want. “That depends on what you want. What do you want, Danny?”
Danny drew in a shaky breath. For once, he felt certain that he wasn’t misinterpreting what Steve was trying to say for his own benefit. “I want you to kiss me.”
Steve leaned down and Danny stood on his tiptoes, stretching up to meet him halfway. He closed his eyes and hooked his hands around Steve’s neck, trying to preserve the moment for as long as he could.
Steve broke the kiss eventually and leaned his forehead against Danny’s. He grinned down at Danny with watery eyes. “I really love you,” he said.
Danny couldn’t remember ever feeling this happy before. He pressed a quick kiss to Steve’s chin. “I love you too. And for the record, pretty much all of my dreams include you.”
“Well, I guess I better stick around then.” Steve tilted his head slightly for another kiss, and Danny closed his eyes. He was looking forward to Steve sticking around, and he was glad that kissing would now be included in that.
Re: FILL: Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, 8.01 spoilers, 2/2
Date: 2017-09-06 12:57 pm (UTC)I haven't watched it since the first or second season, so I'm not really worried about spoilers. (Even I got worried for the series after the cast departures this year, though...) Is the restaurant part canon? In any case, I'm glad that Steve and Danny's relationship is still going strong. I really like your idea of it taking years for them to officially become romantically involved, even with their lives being so connected. Danny's restraint (and stamina for it!) is amazing.
No worries about the misfire comment! I wonder what prompt it was, haha.
Re: FILL: Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, 8.01 spoilers, 2/2
Date: 2017-09-06 01:18 pm (UTC)The restaurant part is semi-canon, because it was mentioned a few times this past season that Danny wanted to start a restaurant after he retired, which he was starting to think about. And Steve wanted Danny to name the restaurant after him so that even if they weren't together anymore they would "still be together" (seriously). And the building they were in the spoiler clip looked like an old, empty restaurant.
I usually write them taking years to get together because I only got into this fandom fairly recently, and I tend to feel more comfortable working within a fairly current timeline. In light of the recent news, I've decided that Chin and Kono will always be part of the team in my mind, even if they don't appear in a particular story (like this one).
At first, I accidentally posted this story under the prompt you put below this one, and my fill didn't make any sense for that prompt so I deleted those comments and put my fill up here where it was meant to go.
Re: FILL: Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, 8.01 spoilers, 2/2
Date: 2017-09-06 01:50 pm (UTC)Ah, okay! That makes sense. Hawaii Five-0 is one of those shows that I fell a little behind on and then couldn't find my way back. Happened with more than one CBS show, actually. -_-+ That network...
I think so, too. It's hard to imagine the team without Chin and Kono.
Yeah, I would've been really confused if I'd seen it sooner, haha.
Re: FILL: Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, 8.01 spoilers, 2/2
Date: 2017-09-06 02:30 pm (UTC)I ended up marathoning most of the show after seeing gifs of it on tumblr, so I didn't have the issue of falling behind. Honestly, I don't think I'll watch the next season after learning about how Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park ended up leaving. It would be weird enough watching the show without them, but the reason they left (not getting equal pay to Alex and Scott) also would make me feel iffy about continuing.

Date: 2017-08-19 05:13 pm (UTC)How had this even begun? How had he hurt Danny this way? He chewed his bottom. There were so many things he needed to say. Pushing himself off the wall he closed the distance between himself and Danny. Placing a hand on Danny's arm, he stopped him from his task of packing. Danny looked up at him, eyes red from tears spilt. Pain pinching his features and Steve's heart stuttered in his chest.
"Stop, please." He looked down at his feet. Not able to take the pain reflected back at him. "I'm an idiot. I know I hurt you. I love you more than anything. Please give me a chance to make it up to you. I should never had said what I did. I don't want this to end. For us to end." He looked up, eyes pleading with Danny's.
Danny backed away, but dropped his bag to the floor. He looked at Steve, pain and anger crossing his face before settling on a tight smile. "If you ever hurt me like that again, there won't be a second chance."
Steve stepped forward, taking Danny into his arms. "I promise, never to hurt you again." He placed a tender kiss on Danny's forehead. "I'll make this right. I swear to love you all my life."
