Thursday: Dark fic
Oct. 5th, 2017 05:31 amHello, everyone. I’m
swirlsofblue and today's theme is dark fic. It's October! Prompts can be anything dark: the macabre; the horrifying; the tragic.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Xmen, Charles Xavier/Erik Lehnsherr, The devastation this insanity wrought
+ The Originals, Klaus Mikaelson + Rebekah Mikaelson, death
+ Supernatural, Sam Winchester, He will do whatever it takes to get the answers he needs
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2017 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

You know this. Not because you out grew your childhood fears.
But because the thing under your bed ate it, in front of you.
It even offered you some when it caught you staring.

Date: 2017-10-06 02:36 am (UTC)Nothing was final when the man in gray was involved, though. Not even death.
Cedric Diggory was the first. The flesh had all but rotted off his bones by now, but still the corpse stood, stock-still and silent, in his casting room. His parents had never learned who'd broken into the cemetary that night; they just knew their son's body was missing.
It had taken quite a while to get the rest. Burbage, Moody, Brown, Creevy. He needed them all, every last one. Everyone whose death could be attributed to the war. If he couldn't get the corpse, he'd settle for the ashes. They needed to be present, not necessarily intact. Bodies filled the manor, pressed like sardines.
The last were the teachers. Snape was surprisingly easy. Nobody really cared now, so long after his big "sacrifice". They had forgotten him. Perhaps he would have preferred that.
But the other... Dumbledore's crypt had quite the collection of wards on it. The staff and students refused to let their late headmaster rest uneasy. Three months! It had taken three solid months of planning and casting alone to get that one corpse.
He left the wretched wand where it lay. Useless trash. His own wand wasn't the greatest, but at least it wouldn't get him killed of its own volition.
Now they all stood in the casting room, from Diggory to Brown. Six years had taken their tolls on all of them. Except for Brown. He had made sure of that.
For the longest time, he had wondered if the ritual would also need Potter. He had died, technically. But no. It hadn't stuck.
On the table before him, he laid the diadem of Ravenclaw. Foolish children, who couldn't tell a myth from a fact. Fiendfyre was said to destroy Horcruxes. "Said" was the operative word there. All the spell had done was weaken it a little. Enough that the power was too dim to be an anchor.
Alone, save for the mass of the dead, he exhaled, holding the melted, twisted hunk of metal. Then he poured a little blood (not his own) onto the center from a beaker and began the chant.
Dark magic is an amazing thing. Cast properly, it could tear the dead from their slumber and force them back onto the physical world.
All would not be well.

Fill: Eyes to See
Date: 2017-10-06 02:18 am (UTC)They killed him and took him from she whom he loves (horses can love humans as herdmates and he did, he had, he does). He can no longer be her companion.
He's no longer a horse. He cannot run, he cannot eat, he can do nothing but stare out from his perch on the wall. But now he can do something he wouldn't have done while he was alive - he can protect her.
He can seek his vengeance on those who tore them asunder.
He has eyes to see and a mouth which can speak to her, tell her secrets they don't want her to know.
He loves her and helping her vanquish them will finally quench the ache he still feels.

There are ghosts here.
They call me by name.
Too, the call me Sister.
They murmur as I sleep.
Sister, they plead, sister, leave.
Sister, run before it’s too late.

Date: 2017-10-05 05:58 pm (UTC)any fandom with merfolk, author's choice,
A woman is found washed up on the beach,
A gorgeous young thing
Drowned at the height of her beauty.
The only clue is a single shining scale
Where her navel should be,
And the kelp tangled in her luscious hair.
“Poor maid,” the undertaker mutters,
Burying her in a pauper’s grave. No one hears
The wailing out in the deep, sisters lamenting,
And no one realizes the storm building on the sea
Will consume everything within a hundred leagues of the shore.

Date: 2017-10-08 10:13 pm (UTC)Pam met him as he was halfway to the bar. "What are you doing here?" Jason looked at her. "What's it to you?" She held up her hands in surrender, not something she commonly did. "Jason you shouldn't be here right now." She said, placing a hand on his chest, trying to stop him from moving further into the club. He pushed her hand away and stepped around her, walking to the door which led to Eric's private quarters. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." With his hand on the doorknob he looked at her. "Well, you're not me, are you?" He said as he turned the know, opening the door to enter. That was his second mistake. He should have listened to Pam. It wasn't often she tried to stop anyone from doing something. But, he'd been determined to see Eric.
Quietly he made his way to Eric's bedroom. He slid in, hoping to find his lover asleep, naked. To his surprise the bed was empty. He heard a sound from the bathroom and he smiled, remembering the old but large claw foot tub in the bathroom and their last bath together. He started to turn the knob when he heard Eric's voice. "Pam, I told you not to disturb me while I'm bathing. I don't get to do this very often." Jason cracked the door open. "Hmm, I thought we shared a bath together not that long ago." He heard the sloshing of water and then Eric's voice. "Jason? Don't come in . . ." Whatever else he might have said died on his lips when Jason pushed the door open. That was Jason's third mistake of the night. He really should have listened to Eric.
Jason stood in the doorway, looking at his lover in the bath. The one they had been in not more than three nights ago. The one now occupied by Eric, filled with blood. Blood! Eric was bathing in blood! "What the fuck!" Jason yelled. Eric looked at him, a smile on his face. "What? You have your beauty secrets, I have mine." Jason closed his eyes and mumbled to Eric. "I need a drink. I'll be at the bar." He said as he backed out, closing the door. He made his way back upstairs to find Pam at the bar, pouring two shots. She slid one to him. "I tried to warn you." She said as she picked up the shot and downed it.
Jason shook his head and downed his shot. Yeah, having a vampire for a boyfriend was definitely a pain in the ass as times. Maybe next time he'd listen when someone tried to warn him. Pushing the shot glass to Pam he watched her pour them another. As he lifted the glass to his lips he smiled. No, next time he'd probably ignore everyone, like he always did.
