Tuesday: Witches and Wizards
Oct. 24th, 2017 12:15 amHi! I’m
brumeier, and we’re going to be casting some spells! Today's theme is WITCHES AND WIZARDS! Time to put on your pointy hats, crack open your spell books, and leave some magical prompts.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, gypsy curse
+ Any, any m/m, a love spell that may or may not work
+ Harry Potter, Any, creating a new spell
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2017 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2017-10-24 05:11 pm (UTC)“Is it possible?” Danny asked.
Chin’s expression turned thoughtful. He stood up, prowled through the stacks.
Danny was hot on his heels. Chin paused, scooped up a volume of Soul Magicke, then scurried down another aisle and grabbed Spirit Bonds. By the time his search was done, he was laden down with a dozen volumes, and Danny was staggering beneath the weight of a dozen more.
“Of course none of these have indices,” Danny muttered, sinking down at the desk he’d been sharing with Chin. “Why would anyone want to make the practice of magic easy?”
“That which we obtain too cheaply we esteem too lightly,” Chin said absently, flipping through one book with uncanny speed. “Besides, Kono’s been working pretty damn hard on scanning all of Kamekona’s books and turning them into searchable PDFs. It’s not easy.”
“Really?” Danny asked.
Chin nodded.
They read and read and read. Through Chin’s football practice. Through Danny’s cheer practice (being a short dude meant he made for a really great gymnast and always a great flyer).
And finally Chin said, “Here. Here’s why they call him St. John.” He turned the book around and tapped the page for Danny to see.
There, rendered in startlingly realistic detail, was a picture of Steve dressed as some kind of Renaissance prince or something, all frilly shirt with laces at the collar and tight pants. In his bloodlust he’d slaughtered almost an entire clan of gypsies, and one of the survivors, a witch, had cast a curse on him.
So he had his soul back.
He hadn’t been lying to Danny. He really did have a soul, really could feel things like empathy and compassion. He really didn’t just feed on humans for fun. Danny didn’t have to slay him. It wasn’t so bad that instead of coming straight home after an evening patrolling the cemeteries he went to Steve’s apartment and crawled into bed with him. Maybe it was even...okay. Steve was a vampire, yes. He had a soul.
Danny thanked Chin, scooped up his leather jacket (the one his mom had altered for him, so it was full of extra pockets for stakes, holy water, and crosses), and headed out to patrol.
After patrol, he let himself into Steve’s apartment with the key Steve had given him (that he might or might not have taken to wearing as a necklace), and he surprised Steve right as he was coming out of his bedroom.
Danny tackled him to the bed, climbed on top of him, and kissed him.
Supernatural vampire strength and stamina plus superhuman slayer strength and stamina plus a whole lot of teenage hormones made for a long, energetic night.
After they’d finally worn each other out, Steve and Danny crawled under the blankets, and Danny cuddled up to Steve.
Everything was perfect.
Until Danny said, “I love you,” and Steve said, “I love you too.”

Date: 2017-10-24 06:04 pm (UTC)The smoke the spell was supposed to produce was blue. He found himself swatting away black smoke. That wasn't right. No, not at all. He had a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach that he was screwed. Totally and utterly screwed and now he had to explain this to Dean. He groaned and palmed his face. Maybe Dean wouldn't find out. Maybe he could keep this truth away from his brother. He knew that wasn't rue. Dean had some kind of ability to see right through Sam's bullshit and he called him on it every chance he got. Yeah, he was beyond screwed.
Sam heard the chuckle coming from the figure that stood before him. Once blue eyes, now black staring back at him. Thin lips curled up into a cold smile.
"What's the matter Sam? You look a little confused." Nybbas said as he looked over the younger Winchester.
Sam opened his mouth to speak, only to clamp his lips together. Finally he found his voice. "I was trying to summon a vision, not the demon who manages visions and dreams." He said, crossing his arms over his chest.
Nybbas threw his had back and laughed.
"What's so funny?" Sam asked in an exasperated voice, not seeing the humor.
"Well, you didn't read the fine print of the spell did you?" The demon asked, pointing to the parchment on the table.
Sam turned and picked it up. "What 'fine print'? He huffed out.
Nybbas took the parchment and turned it over and then laughed again. "Oops, seems whoever wrote this left out the most important part. Whoever performs the spell also agrees to become my apprentice. This should be fun." He said, smiling at Sam.
"No, no I didn't agree to that." Sam said, shaking his head from side to side. "There was to be a way out of this."
Nybbas shrugged his shoulders. "Afraid not."
Dean was going to kill him, Sam thought to himself, that was if Nybbas didn't kill him first.

Date: 2017-10-24 12:50 pm (UTC)Fill: The Black Flame Candle
Date: 2017-10-25 04:12 am (UTC)Rodney ignored her, all his attention on John. Slinky, handsome, popular John, who’d left the swanky party his parents were hosting to show Jeannie all the best trick-or-treating spots around town. Everyone in town knew him, and seemed to like him, and Rodney found himself wanting John’s attention all for himself.
Besides. There was no such thing as witches or curses.
Rodney grabbed one of the lighters from the souvenir counter, which was as covered in dust as everything else in the Sanderson House museum.
“Maybe that’s not a good idea,” John said.
“Don’t tell me you believe in all this hocus pocus.” Rodney was a man of science. Which, yes, was part of the reason his family had moved. Winning the science fair had also turned out to be a loss, too.
“Why tempt fate?” John nodded at the door. “Come on, there’s still lots of houses we can go to.”
“Yeah, Mer. I want more candy.” Jeannie adjusted the strap on her witch’s hat.
The placard on the display case told about the legend, how a virgin lighting the black flame candle during a full moon on Halloween could raise dead spirits. Rodney didn’t believe that would really happen, even though he was in fact a virgin, but he felt compelled to light it just the same.
He flicked the lighter, sparking a flame, and in the next instant was assaulted by a furious ball of black fur and sharp claws. Jeannie screamed but Rodney was no stranger to angry cats. Once he got over the surprise of it, he grabbed the cat by its ruff and detached it from his shirt.
“Bad kitty!” Rodney put the cat down and nudged it toward the door.
“Well, that was exciting.” John grinned, but he looked nervous. He had one arm wrapped protectively around Jeannie.
For some reason John’s nervousness emboldened Rodney. He picked up the lighter from where it had fallen and lit the candle. The flame briefly flared orange before turning black.
Flames didn’t burn black. Black was an absence of light, or a reflection of the substance that was burning. Rodney stared at it, entranced.
“That can’t be good,” John said.
As if in response, every light in the room blazed briefly before the lightbulbs exploded. The candles in the old chandelier burst into flame, as did every other candle in the place. The floorboards under their feet started to heave, the spaces in between glowing with a sickly green light.
“What’s happening?” Rodney shouted, struggling to stay on his feet.
The black cat swiped at his ankle and he looked down at it.
“A virgin lit the candle!” the cat shouted back.
It was all downhill from there.
