“Just because you made no plans for Clary’s birthday, doesn’t mean I need to bail you out,” Jace said. “It’s not my problem.”

“She’s your girlfriend now,” Simon insisted.

“She’s your best friend,” Jace replied.

“She’s…” Simon stopped as he realized he didn’t have another argument.

“Simon, your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency on my time.”

Simon crossed his arms and glared at Jace. “Well, do you have plans for Clary’s birthday?”

Jace’s non-answer was enough of an answer.

“I guess my lack of planning is your emergency,” Simon declared.

“Relax, boys,” Izzy said as she waltzed into the room. “I already took care of everything.”

“Danny,” Steve attempted.

Danny crossed his arms in response. “No. Since I met you, I have been shot, blown up, driven onto a freighter, no. A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my time.” Turning on his heel, Danny stalked away.

Kono joined Steve as Danny vanished into his office. “Does he realize that today is your anniversary?”

“Apparently he hasn’t yet. Guess that means I’m off the hook?”

“Don’t even think about it,” Kono advised him. “Give him about an hour and he’ll figure it out. Then he’ll be ranting at you for forgetting.”

“And here I was hoping he’d help me,” Steve commented.

“I think you’re on your own.”
