Friday: Hobbies
Mar. 22nd, 2018 09:09 pmIt’s Friday, and I am
4bdnsn0wflake, and I hope everybody had a great time this week.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who left prompts and those who filled them!
The final theme of the week is Hobbies.
What do your favorite characters do to relax, or what activities get their blood pumping? Do they have a hobby that is just for them, or do they like to involve as many people as possible? Imagine and prompt away!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ MCU, Bucky Barnes(/Steve Rogers), Bucky volunteers at the local animal shelter
+ Lucifer (TV), Mazikeen, what does a demon bounty hunter do to relax?
+ Author’s Choice, any character(s), people watching
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2018 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2018-03-23 06:49 pm (UTC)But now that he still had three months to go before he had a faint hope of walking he couldn't think of a single damn thing to do that didn't involve some amount of running, flying, putting himself in really a lot of danger.
There was obviously only one choice left to him now. "FRIDAY?"
"Yes, Col. Rhodes?" she murmured, low and soothing, faintly French in accent, still jarringly different from JARVIS.
"No sarcasm now, start up the queue."
Once again Rhodey was taken aback by the lack of backtalk. She, it, started up the crocheting videos she had assembled a week before, helpfully adding a note that knitting seemed to be a long-honored tradition for recovering soldiers. There were several peer-reviewed articles listed on how it assisted recovery. Tony had laughed until he cried, and Rhodey had shut that noise down quick. But, seeing as his other options were zip and zero... he smiled grimly to himself. We'll see who laughs last Tony Stank, he vowed, and picked up his crochet needles in the suggested loose 'v'.
---
"They're bears." Tony actually took his sunglasses off to squint at the 4-inch tall matched pair, one in red and yellow and the other in silver and black. "Yep, definitely bears. Why do you have bears, Rhodey, do I not come home enough? You building yourself friends, honeybear?"
"Building you friends, Tony." Rhodey smiled with a little too much teeth to be really believable.
"Uh, no thanks, I can do that myself, DUM-E will get jealous."
"You turning down my gift Tones? First thing I've made and you're just tossing it out like that." Rhodey pushed up his eyebrows and shook his head, disappointed.
Tony made a couple of reassuring noises, eyes going wide in alarm. He was really just too easy these days, like he thought Rhodey couldn't handly the full-Tony-Stark treatment anymore.
Rhodey leaned back in his wheelchair and sighed loudly. "Just rejecting the gift made out of my own sweat and tears. Made out of my hard work, with my..."
Tony said quickly, "Don't say it, don't!"
But too late! Rhodey was already finishing, "with my own bear hands."
Tony stared at him sadly. Rhodey grinned back, unrepentant. Thirty-odd tutorials on crocheting just for this. Totally worth it.

Date: 2018-03-23 03:43 pm (UTC)Fill: SPN, Sam/Jess (plus stealthy crossover)
Date: 2018-03-24 12:29 am (UTC)Sam looked up. “What? Oh. Just sewing.”
Jess, who’d been on her way to the kitchen, paused. She stepped into the bedroom and sat down beside him. He was wielding the needle and thread with surprising dexterity. Sam had long, spidery fingers. He was still narrow in the shoulders, but Jess knew when he finally filled out it would be in the best way possible.
“Is your shirt torn?”
“No. This is brand new.”
Sam always threw out old clothes when he bought new ones, because he was fastidious like that.
“Then what are you doing?”
Sam tilted his work toward her so she could see what he was stitching into the collar.
“That’s not sewing, that’s embroidery,” Jess said.
The symbol he was stitching into the collar was unfamiliar, but it reminded her of Sam’s tattoos. His torso was covered in tattoos - and old scars, from tattoos given and then removed. He said they had religious significance, spoke of them with bittersweet fondness.
“Needle, thread, it’s all sewing.”
Jess looked at him. “Can you do actual sewing? Like making clothes?”
Sam glanced up at her, smiled. “Sure.”
“Show me.”
“Never learned to use a sewing machine, though. Too unwieldy to travel with.”
“I want to learn anyway,” Jess said. “Show me how to make...a skirt.”
Sam raised his eyebrows. “I’ve never made a skirt before, but -”
“But I saw this girl on campus, who had a super cute skirt made of ties. I want to make one of those.” Jess smiled and pressed a little closer to him.
Sam considered, hands stilling. “That would be pretty simple, all straight lines. Not a bad first project. Would you want a zipper or some other kind of fastening?”
Jess blinked. “Um. A zipper would be good.”
Sam nodded. “Okay. We’ll need some lining, maybe a bit of facing. We’ll just have to figure out how many ties you need, what color thread you want, and go from there.” He smiled at her.
She leaned in and kissed him. “Thank you.”
He finished stitching the strange symbol into the collar of his shirt and set it aside. Together they made a shopping list, and they went to a thrift store to find ties, and to the fabric store to get sewing supplies. Sam was perfectly unselfconscious in the fabric store, chatting with the employees about notions and techniques and other mysterious sewing things.
Having a crafty boyfriend was surprisingly awesome, and Jess expressed her appreciation thoroughly once they got home. But as they lay together in the afterglow, she traced the tattoos on his skin and wondered why he sewed them into his clothes and how he’d grown up, that a sewing machine was too big to carry around.
