Tuesday: Astronomy / Astrology
May. 21st, 2018 09:09 pmGreetings! It’s
4bdnsn0wflake again, and today’s theme is Astronomy / Astrology.
Prompts can have anything to do with celestial matters or astrological ones.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Author’s Choice, any/+any, “For a/an [astrological sign of choice], you’re really not so bad.”
+ Author’s Choice, any ensemble, arguing over whose astrological sign is the best
+ Lucifer (TV), Lucifer Morningstar/+Chloe Decker:
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came falling on our heads
But they’re just old light, they’re just old light
(Samson – Regina Spektor)
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2018 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2018-05-22 08:07 pm (UTC)"So, what's your sign?"
It was very obvious that Doctor Wizard was meditating and did not want to be bothered.
But they were hurtling through space in a giant metal doughnut, heading toward a fate currently unknown but most likely ending in their untimely demise. That meant Tony Stark felt both anxious and bored and when those two feelings collided, meaningless conversation always seemed to be the solution.
Strange opened his eyes and slowly raised an eyebrow. "You're kidding, right?"
Tony shrugged. "No, not really. I'm a Gemini, in case that wasn't completely obvious."
Strange rolled his eyes and stood up, stretching his limbs and rolling his neck back and forth. His gaze returned to Tony.
"I wouldn't really know."
He started to walk away and Tony followed him. "I mean, you know, I figured since we're going to be working together on what basically amounts to a suicide mission, we might as well get to know each -"
"No, Stark. The less we know...the less I know the better."
They were standing by the controls again, Strange staring out at the stars as they raced by, and Tony staring at him.
"I get that being a team player isn't really your thing, but some base level camaraderie might be important right now."
Peter Parker appeared suddenly in Tony's peripheral vision, hanging upside down from his webbing, and he made Tony nearly jump out of his skin.
"How? How are you so stealthy?"
"I'm a Leo, in case anyone was interested." Peter shrugged, the movement seeming unnatural since he was currently upside down.
"First of all, I highly doubt that. Second of all, the adults are talking, please excuse us."
Peter sighed and swung away to another corner of the ship.
Tony glanced back at Strange and saw intense green eyes boring into him.
"Is that what you call camaraderie?"
Tony huffed. "He shouldn't even be here, and it's my fault that he is here, so just let me deal with that, okay?"
Strange said nothing, but continued staring at Tony and it was making him feel a little uncomfortable.
"Okay, I get it. Don't want to chat. It's okay, I have a poor track record with friendships anyway -"
"Scorpio."
Tony paused, saw a glint of amusement in Strange's eyes, maybe even a tiny crack in his ever serious facade, and it made him grin.
"See? That wasn't so hard. Although I have to tell you, Gemini and Scorpio? That's a hell of a duo. Lots of arguments, both stubborn personalities, both think they're right all the time -"
Strange chuckled and Tony felt his heart skip a beat. It was a rather odd and unexpected feeling, and he didn't know what to do with it, so Tony ignored it.
"I thought you were supposed to be a genius. Astrology is bullshit."
"Yeah, well I'm sure you used to think sentient capes and magic portals were bullshit too before you became a wizard."
Strange shrugged. "I guess so."
"Oh, the Scorpio concedes! Full of surprises, aren't you?"
They were both smiling at each other and the moment was too perfect to last long. After a few beats, things started to beep and flash and the giant doughnut was now fast approaching what Tony assumed was the planet Titan.
"Well, we're here." Tony turned in the direction that Peter had gone. "Hey! Leo the Lion! Get down here and help me pilot this thing!"
Tony turned back toward Strange, saw that the good doctor was back to being cold and focused. He nudged him in the ribs gently and leaned in.
"Truth? The astrology stuff is good for picking up chicks. You should give it a try."
Strange folded his arms across his chest and met Tony's eyes.
"I'll keep that in mind."
Strange winked at him for the second time that day, and Tony's heart palpitated again.
Fucking Scorpios.

Date: 2018-05-22 07:17 pm (UTC)“Those five stars there that form a kind of W? That’s Cassiopeia.” Rodney traced the shape with his finger for Ronon and Teyla’s benefit. “She was a queen who thought she was better than everyone else and so the gods punished her.”
“Did they smite her?” Ronon wanted to know.
John chuckled. “Smiting is more a Bible kind of thing.” He was lying between Rodney and Teyla, both of them warm and familiar. Ronon was on Rodney’s other side.
“How was she punished?” Teyla asked.
“The gods sent a monster, and she had to sacrifice her daughter.”
“Did they give her no other options?”
“Nope,” John said, picking up the story. “If the princess wasn’t sacrificed then the Kraken would destroy the entire city.”
“Kraken? That’s not what it was.” Rodney leaned up on his elbow and looked down at John. “You’re confusing actual mythology with that stupid movie.”
“It’s not a stupid movie,” John protested. “Picture it, you guys. The princess was chained to a cliff wall right at the edge of the sea, waiting for the Kraken to come get her.”
“What kind of monster is that?” Ronon asked. He’d also leaned up to look at John, one arm draped across Rodney’s hips.
“Strong tail for swimming, because it lived in the water. Scales. Webbed hands with talons on them. Tall as the control tower.”
“It seems unbeatable,” Teyla said.
“I think you mean stupid,” Rodney replied. “While I admit the Harryhausen effects were good for their time, it still doesn’t –”
John squeezed Rodney’s thigh, a much more effective way to cut into one of his rants. Rodney stopped talking, though he did make a disgruntled noise in the back of his throat. John didn’t move his hand.
“It would’ve been unbeatable,” John continued. “But the hero Perseus flew in on his winged horse and saved her.”
“That’s the Pegasus,” Rodney interjected, his tone daring John to cut him off again.
“The beast that gave its name to our galaxy,” Teyla said. She slid her hand into John’s and he twisted their fingers together. He knew she was missing home.
Ronon snorted. “One man on a flying horse? How does he beat such a creature? Did he have a blaster?”
“He had something better,” John said. “He had the head of Medusa, a woman cursed by the gods to have snakes for hair. One look from her could turn any living thing to stone. He turned Medusa’s head on the Kraken and saved the princess.”
Ronon nodded, a pleased smile on his face. “That’s a good weapon. How did he get the head?”
Rodney groaned and dropped his head on John’s shoulder. “You’re going to tell the whole movie, aren’t you?”
“Do you know all the constellations?” John countered.
Rodney picked up head and glared. “Hello? Astrophysicist.”
“Good. You can point them out while I tell the tale.”
“Or we could just watch the movie.”
“I like this better,” Teyla said. Ronon rumbled his assent.
“Fine,” Rodney said with a sigh.
John could tell he wasn’t really annoyed, though. It was nice out there under the stars, just the four of them. He gave Rodney’s thigh another squeeze, though it turned into more of a caress.
“Okay. Perseus.” Rodney lay back down on the blanket, head resting against Ronon’s. His hand traced out the constellation. “If you find Cassiopeia, you can find that one. The star cluster is supposed to represent Perseus holding his sword up over his head. Take it away, Colonel.”
John launched into the heroic story of Perseus, his flying horse, and the vengeful gods. He added dramatic sound effects, Teyla and Ronon asked questions, and Rodney periodically pointed out relevant constellations.
When – not if – they got Atlantis back to Pegasus, John wanted to do it all over again, only this time Teyla and Ronon could tell the stories of their stars for him and Rodney.

Date: 2018-05-23 03:04 am (UTC)He, John, Ronon, Teyla, and Aiden were all crammed into the prison hold of the Genii shuttle.
“They said they were taking us to the Moon,” Aiden protested, and elbowed Rodney aside so he could see.
Aiden was the youngest of them, only fourteen, and had the pointiest elbows.
“Surprise surprise,” John drawled. “They lied.”
“They can’t just lock us away without a trial,” Rodney protested. “Can they?”
“You’re not an Genii citizen,” John said. “I’m not an Genii citizen. I was born in the L4 colony cluster. Teyla was born in the L1 colony cluster. Aiden was born on L2. Ronon was -”
“Born on L5,” he said, and Rodney winced, because the Federation had destroyed L5 after its elders had refused to buckle to Federation control.
Teyla said, “I was born on Athos.”
“Still not a Genii citizen,” John said. “They can lock us up tight and throw away the key and who’ll come looking for us?”
Ronon’s home colony had been destroyed. Aiden was an orphan. John’s father hated him and didn’t give a damn about him. Teyla’s mother had walked out on her and her father had died.
“Pretty sure I was born on Earth,” Rodney said.
“Again, still not a Genii citizen,” John said.
Rodney had been quasi-adopted by Jeannie, one of the aeralists for the circus Rodney had hidden out in, using his science know-how to work their special effects and magic shows. Jeannie considered Rodney her brother. They looked like they could be brother and sister. Jeannie had been born on Earth too.
“What do you think they’ll do to us?” Aiden asked.
Teyla said, “To them we are terrorists. They will likely torture us for information and then kill us.”
“But - we’re kids,” Aiden protested.
“You stopped being a kid the first time you climbed into a Mobile Suit and you know it,” Rodney snapped. “We all did. We agree to pilot the Gundams for the betterment of the galaxy, to protect the colonies and smaller planets from Genii dictatorship.”
Ronon said, “I’ll go first.”
And go first he did.
The shuttle docked on the surface of a space station so massive it could have been a moon, and Genii soldiers locked them into a cell together.
All five of them, which was a mistake, but the soldiers thought of them as kids, too.
Ronon managed to go first by mouthing off to the guards - not a natural skill for him - and spitting at one of them. They punched him, dragged him away with relish.
John nearly swallowed his own tongue when Dr. Zelenka appeared in the doorway hours later, when the guards deposited an unconscious, bruised, beaten, and bloody Ronon just inside the cell.
Rodney mouthed off, because he was mouth.
Zelenka punched him in the stomach, kicked him to the ground.
John was on his feet after that, spitting and swearing, and the guards took him.
