Howdy! We’ve made it to Thursday, and I remain 4bdnsn0wflake, and today’s theme is Life Changes.

Prompts should have to do with major events in characters’ lives, such as marriage, graduation, having a baby, starting a new job, losing a parent, etc.

Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!

Everyone on Atlantis knew Sheppard and McKay were together. It was Atlantis’s worst-kept secret (and yet somehow the best-kept secret from Earth). Plenty of people knew Evan and Ronon were together, had been ever since the Genii had had bounty hunters kidnap Evan and his team during an offworld mission with the creepy aim of somehow harvesting their ATA Gene. That didn’t mean they didn’t do their best to be professional and discreet when they were on duty.

So when Ronon set a red clay brick on the table beside Evan’s tray during breakfast in the mess hall and said, “House,” Evan was confused, but Ronon walked away before Evan could ask him what was going on.

Evan didn’t manage to raise him on the radio that day because he and AR-1 were scheduled for an offworld mission, and by the time they’d get back Evan and his team would offworld on a mission of their own.

Ronon didn’t come to Evan’s bed that night, not even to sleep, and when Evan woke alone, he felt a mixture of dread and disappointment curl low in his gut.

He didn’t see Ronon on his morning run or during breakfast. Ronon didn’t answer radio hails. No one seemed to know where he was.

Until lunch time, when Ronon crossed the mess hall bearing a hand-forged metal crucible bowl in which a small flame flickered and danced. Ronon set the bowl on Evan’s table, and he set beside them a handmade flint-and-tinder firestarter.

“Hearth,” Ronon said, and walked away before Evan could say anything.

After lunch, Evan carried the bowl back to his quarters, and he sat staring at the flame, puzzled and a little entranced.

Then he used his logistics officer know-how and checked AR-1’s mission schedule. They were on stand down for the next two days. Evan checked in with Chuck and Amelia, but surprisingly both of them claimed to have no knowledge of Ronon’s location. What was going on?

Before Evan could devote further time and effort to figure out what was going on with Ronon, a call came over the radio. Marines brawling in the residential atrium over allegedly stolen skin mags. Evan sighed and told the unamused sergeant he’d be right there.

Ronon didn’t come to bed that night either.

Evan woke the next morning and decided enough was enough. He emailed Ronon, but that wasn’t helpful. He left a note on Ronon’s door during his morning run, and when he looped back around to see if there was a reply, the note was gone, which suggested Ronon had seen it.

But Ronon wasn’t at breakfast, and he wasn’t at lunch, and everyone, including his teammates and even Teyla, was blissfully ignorant of Ronon’s whereabouts or his intentions with his strange gifts.

Evan set the crucible - its flame still going (what was fueling it?) - on his nightstand beside the red clay brick. He’d studied the brick, looking for imprints or some other clue as to its relevance, but it was just a brick, perfectly smooth faces and square corners and sharp edges, even measurements.

By the time supper arrived, Evan was edgy and also pretty sure everyone was staring at him.

Evan ate quickly, scanning the mess hall, alert for Ronon to make his entrance.

Which he did.

And damn but he made an entrance.

Ronon strode into the mess hall, bare to the waist, his upper body covered in swirling tattoos. Were they letters, symbols, pictures, or just decoration? Evan had a couple of tattoos himself, and he knew about Ronon’s tattoos, but these were a different color from his regular tattoos. Too dark to be henna. Something Pegasus-based that was similar? Paint?

Ronon stopped at Evan’s table - where Evan was sitting with his gawking teammates - and lowered himself to his knees. He pressed a hand to his chest and said, “Heart.” Then he bowed his head, waiting.

For what?

And suddenly it all made sense.

A red brick for home. A crucible and firestarter for a hearth. Home and hearth and heart.

Evan said, “Yes. I do. I don’t know what the Satedan equivalent is, but -”

Ronon lifted his head, closed his eyes, leaned in.

Evan leaned in to meet him, and they kissed.

“Yes,” Evan whispered when they parted for breath, “I’ll marry you.”

The entire mess hall burst into cheers.

Ronon followed Evan back to his quarters and to his bed soon after.
