"Good morning, Detective Murphy." Harry swept into the bullpen, two mugs of coffee in hand. He set one down on Karen's desk.

"And to you, Detective Dresden." She accepted the coffee, took a sip.

He'd sprung for the good stuff, from Mac's.

"Something you want to tell me?" she asked.

"Can't a man bring his partner a nice coffee?" Harry plopped down at his desk, logged in. He kept his magic gear to a minimum at work, because magic always futzed with modern tech.

"You only bring the nice stuff when you've done something bad and are trying to butter me up so I accept your apology." Karen sipped some more of the coffee and couldn't hide a smile.

"Really," Harry said. "I just brought you the coffee."

Karen crossed her arms and raised her eyebrows at him.

"And the laptop I took home last night to update my cold case files just kinda...died."

"Harry! That's the third laptop in four weeks."

"I know! I know. I didn't spill anything on it, my dog and cat didn't go anywhere near it. I just - stuff breaks around me." He shrugged helplessly. It was true.

Stuff just tended to break around him when he got careless and tried a new spell while he was on the same floor as his laptop. Magic was supposed to happen in the basement for a reason.

Karen eyed him. "You said the same thing about the last two laptops."

"And the techs backed me up! No coffee, no food, no animal damage. They just...fry themselves."

"It's because you're such a luddite. Technology commits seppuku around you. Karen finished her coffee. "I'll file a requisition for another one. Now come on, let's go. We got a lead on a cold case." Karen scooped up her jacket.

"Oh yeah?" Harry bolted down the rest of his coffee.

"You're gonna love this. Guy says his girlfriend was a vampire and she was feeding on him."

"Someone's been watching too much Twilight."

"Tell me about it. Let's roll."

Thanks! Given that Harry and Karen were pretty much partners, I wanted to keep that dynamic. Also I figured since Harry kinda solved mysteries anyway, why not have him also be a detective?
