Tuesday: 100 Words on Vacation
Jun. 12th, 2018 12:02 amHi! I’m
brumeier, and this week we’re going to be filling themes using 100 words or any multiple of 100. Today’s theme is VACATION, anything and everything about taking a trip from planning it to returning home weary and sunburnt!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard, he accompanies his dad to Vegas for a business trip and a newly acquired fake ID insures he has a good time
+ Trixie Belden Mysteries/The Three Investigators, Trixie Belden +/ Jupiter Jones, taking a day trip
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tony Stark/Stephen Strange, fighting the urge to skip the journey and get right to the destination
+ Any, Any m/m, one likes to see and do everything while the other prefers lounging by the pool
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2018-06-12 04:03 am (UTC)Fill: McShep
Date: 2018-06-12 08:45 pm (UTC)John smiled, sipped his whiskey. “My driver’s license says I am.”
The guy looked skeptical.
John said, “Are you afraid to play me?”
The guy glared. “No.”
John counted cards shamelessly.
So did the guy.
They made their escape before a couple of thugs could make it for them.
John followed the guy - Rodney - to his hotel room. As they tumbled to the bed, Rodney said,
“Are you in MENSA?”
John reached for his belt and said, “No, but I could be.”

Date: 2018-06-12 04:03 am (UTC)Fill -- Trixie Belden: WMD (700 words)
Date: 2018-06-12 08:32 am (UTC)“You look perfect,” he says with admiration when he sees her the next morning. “Very cute.”
“You think so?” She’d had doubts--Aunt Mathilda bought her the outfit; it’s definitely not something she would’ve picked out. White capri pants printed with bold red cherries, a sleeveless red top, its neckline ruffled…jeans and tee shirts are her usual style, but if Jupe really likes it….
“Absolutely.” He holds the door of the truck open for her. A moment later, they’re rumbling down the driveway of Belden Farms.
“We’re going on a picking trip,” he announces, and Trixie feels a stab of dismay. Picking? In this outfit? “I’ve been out there before. It’s incredible--Malachi, the old guy who owns it inherited it from his dad, who was born there, and I don’t think any of them ever threw anything out.”
“Great,” she responds, trying to simulate enthusiasm.
“The trouble is, he sticks to me like a tick. I look at something, and he’s got a twenty minute story about where and when he got it. That’s where you come in. You’re my secret weapon of Malachi distraction.”
Trixie reaches over and wipes the corner of Jupe’s mouth. “You had a canary feather sticking out,” she tells him, sweet as saccharine. “So what, exactly, do you want me to do?”
“Be yourself. Be enthusiastic about his garden, his yard art--his chickens!--it doesn’t matter! Just keep him away from the barn so I can do some serious spelunking.”
“Technically, that means exploring a cave.” Trixie is delighted to be able to one-up Mr. Vocabulary--after all, she’s actually gone spelunking!
Jupe chuckles. “Good point, Trixie. Look, I’ve been out here four or five times now, I know there’s some great stuff in that barn, but I can’t get at any of it with Malachi riding my coat-tails. If you can play wide-eyed and hang on his every word and sweet talk him into showing you around the rest of the place while I put together a good pile of junk to bargain over, that would be outstanding.”
“Sure,” Trixie agrees, relieved to know that she isn’t the one who’s going to be crawling through a grubby old barn in her newest clothes. “How hard can it be?”
Four hours later, on their way back to Belden Farms, Trixie’s outfit is in tatters. She’d stumbled on the step up to Malachi’s house and skinned both knees--the capris are destined to become shorts. When she bent to pet the friendly-looking brown goat in the pen out back, it mistook her ruffled neckline for some botanical delicacy and nibbled it--it’s now much lower-cut than she’s comfortable with, so she’s wearing it backward.
Trixie’s predicaments weren’t in vain--quailing at Jupe’s epithets, Malachi had sold him everything he’d picked for a ridiculously low price. He even threw in a lawn sculpture Trixie had admired.
Far from being upset, Trixie is in good spirits. “He gave me a tour of his greenhouse,” she enthuses. “My gosh, the flowers he’s got! And he gave me seeds--a whole bunch of them! I’m going to start some at the farm, and send some to Moms--there are some really wild striped pansies--you were so right about that place, Jupe! It’s full of treasures--I can hardly wait to go back!”
One grimy finger swipes the corner of her mouth. “Feather.”
…

Date: 2018-06-12 08:57 am (UTC)"Uh, yeah, but, I mean, we are gonna do something, right?" Steve asked doubtfully, watching Danny pull his shirt off and claim a seat.
"Yes, yes we are, love, we are Going to lie down beside the swimming pool, and maybe, later we'll get up, stroll around the Old Town. Meet some Williamses that never left the Old Country," Danny replied, pointing to Steve's seat.
"This hotel has a gym, right?" Steve asked.

Fill: Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay (400)
Date: 2018-06-12 09:15 pm (UTC)The shared veranda with the small adjoining wall mostly hidden by giant potted plants that had shiny green leaves. The shared veranda where Rodney’s ex-girlfriend had just popped up wearing a very skimpy bikini.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
“I could ask you the same question. You hate the sun. And the beach.”
Susan leaned over the wall trying to see inside the sliding glass door. Rodney stepped in her way; naked John was his and his alone.
“As it happens, I’m here on my honeymoon.”
Susan gave an inelegant snort. “You got married? I find that hard to believe.”
Rodney burned at the mocking tone of her voice. She’d humiliated him in front of everyone when they’d worked at Area 51 together, not waiting to get him alone before she broke up with him and listed every single reason why he was inadequate as a romantic partner.
“Hey.” John stepped out on the veranda and wrapped his arms around Rodney from behind. He’d thankfully slipped on a pair of board shorts. “Who’s this?”
“Susan Jeffers. A former colleague of mine. Susan, this my husband. Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard, Air Force.”
John gave him a little pinch, but no way was Rodney going to stop telling people he was married to a high-ranking military officer. And not just because he knew how much it meant to John to have earned that rank.
Susan looked suitably impressed, though she obviously didn’t work for the SGC anymore if she didn’t recognize John’s name. “I’m married too, actually.”
“Oh? The tennis instructor you dumped me for?”
John pressed a kiss to Rodney’s temple.
“Actually, Alan owns his own tech company. He’s very wealthy.”
“Well, John is an actual hero. He saves lives every day.”
“Alan is on the Forbes 500.”
“John solved one of the Millennium Prize Problems because he’s a mathematical genius.”
“John is horny,” John whispered in Rodney’s ear. He pressed his very obvious erection against Rodney’s ass.
“And he’s good in bed, so sorry for the noise.” Rodney gave Susan one last smirk before he let John drag him back in the suite.

Date: 2018-06-12 01:18 pm (UTC)It was Grace who found the body. “Dad, wait. Look.”
Middle-aged white male wearing a wetsuit. It looked like his carotid artery had been severed, maybe with a knife, maybe with a bullet. The sand was stained with blood so he’d been killed there, propped against a piling.
Grace was already on her cell phone with 911, and Steve couldn’t be more proud of how she was handling herself. She was pale but calm, describing their location to the operator and giving a description of the scene.
The panic came while they waited for the local cops to arrive. “You have to call Danno,” Grace said.
“I think he’ll take it better coming from you,” Steve suggested. There was no way he was going to be the one to let Danny know that his daughter had found a dead body on the second day of their vacation. Despite his husband’s claims to the contrary, Steve didn’t have a death wish.
“Oh, no! No way. You’re his husband. You tell him.”
“You’re his daughter. He won’t kill you.”
Grace flung her hands in the air in a very Williams-esque gesture. “He’ll just lock me in my room till I’m a wrinkled old lady!”
In the end it didn’t matter. The lead detective was an old friend of Danny’s and had picked him up on the way. Danny’s face was thunderous as he got out of the cop car.
“I hate both of you,” he grumbled.
Which didn’t stop them from helping solve the case.

Date: 2018-06-14 02:19 am (UTC)Dean looked over his shoulder. “I told you, it’s a surprise.”
Sam sighed, but continued to trudge through the sand after his brother. “Not a surprise like Dad’s, right?”
“I think you will like this one.”
Sam tripped slightly on the sand and Dean waited for him to regain his footing. “How much farther?”
“Just over the rise. But you have to be quiet.”
The boys crept over the sandbank. “Dean,” Sam breathed when he saw what had been half-buried in the sand.
Dean smiled at the look of awe. “Thought you’d like the baby turtles.”

“Need help?”
Evan smiled. “No thanks. Got it all under control.”
Ronon followed him. “What are you doing?”
“Building a blanket fort. I’ve got movies, books, drawing supplies, and pillows. I’ll be set for two weeks.”
“Is your fort big enough for two?”
Evan’s smile was like a sunrise. “It can be.”

“Well, I rather liked the thought of seeing you naked, you know, without any clothes on.”
“Thank you. I am aware of the meaning of the word. Although why you should think this was a good idea is beyond me.”
“You do realise it won’t just be you; we’ll both be naked.”

Ronon walked past, dressed like a samurai.
“Do I want to know?” John asked.
“Masterless samurai are known as ronin.”
“Of course they are.” John watched Ronon swagger down the hall, katana in hand, lacquered wood armor gleaming. “They had fun on Earth?”
“Saw the sights, bought the t-shirts - and other souvenirs.”
“Other souvenirs?” John asked.
Teyla approached him, smiling. “Is it not lovely, John?”
“That’s a lovely muumuu. Kanan will love it.”
