Martes: Poetry
Jun. 26th, 2018 12:47 amHello, everyone. I’m
nagi_schwarz and today's theme is poetry. Prompts can be titles of poems, lines from poems, your characters writing or reading poetry, or really anything to do with poetry.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, Ronon Dex/any, writing poetry on his lover’s skin
+ Hawaii Five-0, Danny Williams + Grace Williams, Danny discovers someone has been sending Grace love poems
+ Criminal Minds, Spencer Reid, reciting poetry to stave off boredom
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2018 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2018-06-27 04:01 am (UTC)AR-1 was having supper together after a blessedly uneventful offworld mission.
Rodney paused, his spoon halfway to his mouth. “Why?”
Ronon recited,
“On the chest of a barmaid in Sale
Was tattooed the prices of ale
And on her behind
For the sake of the blind
Was the same information in Braille.”
Teyla raised her eyebrows but said nothing.
Rodney rolled his eyes. “Honestly? You can’t figure it out from context?”
John stared at Ronon. “Who taught you that?”
Ronon said, “Major Lorne.”
Rodney choked on his mouthful of soup.
Ronon began to recite,
“There was once a man from Nantucket -”
John tapped his radio. “Lorne, I need a word. Immediately.”
Ronon frowned. “Why? It’s just a story about a stolen bucket. So, really, what’s Braille?”

Fill: McLorne + Radek
Date: 2018-06-27 05:01 am (UTC)“Look at him closely,” Evan said, without turning to look at the man in question at all. “Do you see how he unapologetically wears his pain, happiness, flaws, and confusion on his skin? He’s walking poetry.”
Radek glanced over his shoulder at where Rodney was excitedly describing his newest discovery to a very bored-looking Ronon. “Then you have terrible taste in poetry.”
Evan huffed. “I do not.”
“You don’t have to work with him every day,” Radek continued. “He’s a nightmare.”
Evan raised his eyebrows. “Like you don’t have your diva moments.”
Radek’s expression turned rueful. “Yes, okay, fine, scientists are not a random sampling of the population, and we tend to skew toward being highly-strung and egotistical. But Rodney?”
“I read AR-1’s AARs,” Evan said. “On his first week in Atlantis, he walked into a living shadow that could have killed him. That’s brave as hell.”
“Crazy more like,” Radek muttered.
“He held up under Kolya’s torture and kept his head cool while he was being held hostage during a foothold situation in the city.”
“He complained about that sore arm for days.”
“Kolya carved him open with a knife.”
“When you put it that way -”
“Also, he’s beautiful.”
Radek fumbled his fork. “What?”
Evan waved a dismissive hand. “You’d have to be an artist to truly appreciate it. Never mind. Now are you going to help me or what?”
“Help you with what?” Radek asked. “You know what kind of coffee he likes, what his favorite foods are, what all his allergies are, the kinds of pens he likes for the whiteboard, how the laundry Marines should starch his shorts. What else is there to know?”
“Does he even like men?”
“Oh. That. Well - yes. Rodney is bisexual. He likes people. He complains that few people like him.”
“I like him.”
“So I can see.” Radek tapped his chin thoughtfully. “Are you particularly good at any kinds of science or mathematics? Rodney was quite intrigued when Colonel Sheppard solved a difficult math puzzle that was on the MENSA test.”
“I did get my masters in geophysics,” Evan said.
“Really?”
Evan chuckled. “Yeah. Why so surprised? The Marines and Navy and Army make fun of us airmen for being nerds for a reason.”
“Of course, Rodney is surrounded by brilliant scientists all the time and doesn’t seem that interested in any of them.” Radek thought some more. “I think, what Rodney wants more than anything, is someone who will listen.”
Evan nodded. “I can work with that.
So he waited till he and Rodney were both on third shift, and he caught Rodney in the commissary on third shift lunch break, sat opposite him and slid a mug of coffee across the table.
“Long night, Doc?”
“Like you wouldn’t believe,” Rodney said, and then paused, eyed Evan uncertainly.
Evan smiled and sipped his own coffee. “Go on,” he said, and Rodney did.
After a while, Rodney started seeking Evan out, just to vent, and he started thinking to bring coffee for Evan, and one night they were alone in the commissary, staring at a chessboard while Rodney wondered how he’d gotten backed into a corner so fast when Rodney said,
“How did I get here?”
“You underestimated my chess skills,” Evan said.
Rodney shook his head. “No. How did I get here, with you? Talking and having coffee and - are we dating?”
“Only if you want to be, Doc.”
“But - but you’re a soldier.”
“The preferred term is airman.”
“You’re an airman. You have rules. The risk is -”
“You’re worth it,” Evan said, and sipped his coffee some more.
Rodney frowned, and something in Evan’s chest tightened. Someone else had thought Rodney wasn’t worth the risk. But then Rodney reached out and tipped his king over and said,
“I know you know where my quarters are, but follow me anyway.”
So Evan did.
“You’re glowing,” Radek said, the next day.
“Am I?” Evan asked, smiling.
Radek’s eyes went wide. “You - you didn’t!”
“What if I did?”
“How - how was it?”
“He,” Evan said, “is pure poetry.”

Fill: Game of Thrones, Sansa/Margaery
Date: 2021-01-12 07:34 pm (UTC)But in the end it only needed one person to make it all tumble down. There is nothing left but stones, dirt and dust; not even bones. The wildfire spared nothing.
It makes it even harder to believe that this is supposed to be her final resting place. Margaery Tyrell. Killed by the explosion caused by Cersei Lannister.
Sansa turns one of the smaller stones over with her foot.
There's nothing left. No bones, no nothing, no one buried underneath the heavy weight.
She has to keep reminding herself of that, for her fingers are twitching in eagerness to start digging, to retrieve the body of the young woman ... to once more look at the beautiful face, feel the soft hair. Simply hold her one last time, if nothing else but to say goodbye.
Sansa sinks to her knees, lip trembling. They really never got to say goodbye, with her fleeing King's Landing as fast as she could, her so-called allies pulling the strings and leaving her no choice, no time for preparation.
Sansa sighs. She puts her hand on another stone, feels the smooth surface warmed by the sun.
"At least you didn't have to witness the slaughter of your family," Sansa whispers towards the ground. "At least you were spared this pain. It is all over for you, you can rest in peace, reunited with your loved ones. Just know that justice is served, Cersei is dead as well."
A tear streams down her cheek and falls onto the stone.
"I miss you every day; have and always will," she continues and starts to sing a song, a sad melody asking the Seven to have mercy on the soul of her beloved.
Though Margaery herself couldn't hear it anymore ... maybe someone else would listen.
