The war began when Quatre was just a little boy though the seeds of discontent and rebellion were being sown long before. Though he had a level of safety and security that came with wealth and social standing his thoughts often drifted to visions of peace. True peace where everyone was free and cared for. Where there was no need to fight because everyone had more than enough. A world where the open wounds of pain, fear, and loss were able to heal instead of festering.

His dreams were too big for a single small boy to accomplish. Even one with the resources that Quatre had at his fingertips. Still, he tried with every breath in his young soul.

When the day came and he was offered Sandrock and chance to really put his desires into motion he didn't hesitate.

Even though she's not alone anymore, with Faith and the baby Slayers, with Dawn and the Scoobies (spread throughout the world they may be), with Giles and the New Watchers -- she's still apart from it all. Still separated by the fact that she was the last solo Slayer, the Slayer who fought the First Evil and won, the Slayer who looked at centuries of tradition and changed it all.

She's not alone anymore. She's not the Slayer, with only a single Watcher, staring into the darkness and knowing she'll die at some point, so another Slayer can take her place, and another and another and another.

They all look to her, even Faith sometimes. All the baby Slayers, all of Giles' trainees, Willow's students and Xander's hangers-on.

She dreams of the First Slayer, staring into the darkness with no one beside her, and she dreams of all the Slayers from the First to her, and she wakes up on her 40th birthday, the oldest Slayer there's ever been, and says, "I'm not alone, not anymore and never again."

“You have Gath’s trust and support,” Jack states, circling the prisoner. “You have Gilboa’s love, and the love of Gilboa’s princess. You are the hope of two countries, David Shepherd.” He pauses, to gaze down at the prisoner, who gazes up at him with calm eyes, loose bearing. He is shackled, forced to his knees, a gun to his head.

“What oath can you make that I could trust?” Jack asks.

“I love Gilboa,” David tells him, as sincere as he has been since he carried Jack out of that tent, barely conscious. “I love Michelle, and the daughter I have yet to meet.”

The throne will never be secure while David Shepherd lives.

“I love you, my king,” David Shepherd vows, bowing his head.

Jack wishes he could believe it.
