Mittwoch: Fairies
Jul. 25th, 2018 12:01 amHallo, meine Freunde! I am still
sherlockian_syn and today's supernatural subject is the ever elusive fairy. Do your characters encounter some fairies? Do they stumble upon the fae court? Do they make a bargain with a fairy? Do they somehow become a fairy, or have fae blood? If so, drop those prompts down below, and be wary of fairy rings...
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard +/ any, an offworld mission goes awry when they come across what locals call the Hight Court of the Fae
+ BBC Sherlock, Sherlock Holmes (+/ any), memories of the fairy ring in the backyard of his childhood home
+ Any, any, "I do not deal in fairy trades."
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2018 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2018-07-25 01:56 pm (UTC)“I do not deal in fairy trades.”
Grandma McKay had constantly gone on about math, science, music - and magic. She’d taught him to leave out a saucer of cream when he needed help, and to carry cold iron, and to throw salt if a fae was chasing him. She’d taught him all the ways of detecting a fairy or a changeling, the pointed ears and unnatural beauty.
Major Sheppard came up short. “I wasn’t going to ask for a trade,” he said finally, perplexed.
Rodney blinked at him. “Wait, you are a fairy?”
Sheppard’s gaze immediately turned shifty. “What? No. That’s insane. There’s no such things as -” He cut himself off, coughed uncomfortably.
Rodney prowled closer to him. “That’s why you have the Gene, isn’t it?”
Sheppard looked genuinely confused. “No. I have the Gene because I just - have it. It’s genetic. It’s a gene. What are you saying?”
Rodney reached out, traced the line of one of Sheppard’s ears.
His eyes slipped closed, a pleased smile spreading across his face. Then he swatted Rodney’s hand aside. “Hey, personal space. What the hell?”
“You really are a fae,” Rodney breathed. “Impossible. But then I used to think aliens and wormholes were impossible, so -”
“Don’t tell anyone,” Sheppard said. His tone brooked no argument.
“I won’t,” Rodney promised. And felt something strange click into place behind his breastbone, like a tumbler in a lock sliding home. “What’s your name?”
Sheppard pointed to the name on his uniform.
“Right. John Sheppard.”
“What’s yours?” Sheppard asked.
Rodney remembered something else Grandma McKay had told him, about the power of true names. “Rodney McKay.”
“Well, Rodney, looks like we’ve got some work to do.” Sheppard gestured to the box of Ancient devices on Rodney’s workbench.
Rodney nodded. “Right. Yes. Of course. Let’s start with - this one.” He fished a random device out of the box and handed it to Sheppard, and it lit up.
Years later, John would corner Rodney outside of the mess hall and say, “So, your real name is Meredith Rodney McKay,” and something between them would shift again.
Till then, it was John and Rodney (and Teyla and Aiden and Ronon) against the Wraith and the Genii.
And it was just John and Rodney trading kisses on one of Atlantis’s balconies, one of John’s glamours shimmering over them to protect them from prying eyes.
“I do not deal in fairy trades,” Rodney said, once in a while.
And John said, “I wasn’t going to ask for a trade. I’m just giving it to you.” And he leaned in for another kiss.
