Wednesday: 100 Words

Hello, everyone. I’m dreamsofspike and today's theme is 100 Words. Prompts can be anything at all that you like, but fills must be exactly 100 words, or an exact multiple of 100 words (200, 300, 500).

Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!

The first raindrops hit Gotham’s skyscrapers. Before long, they’ll reach its paving stones and roads. Everywhere will get wet. Soon, umbrellas will open, puddles will form and everyone will complain.

She breathes in the smell of it - it almost smells like fresh earth. As if the falling rain can wash away all the bloodshed, the gunpowder and the stench that’s been building up in the city.

She feels the atmosphere change again, as Batman joins her, perched on the rooftop. He keeps his distance.

"I thought cats didn't like the rain," he observes.

She turns to look at him so he can see her roll her eyes.

“It’s the novelty,” she says. It’s been a long dry spell. When the weather forecasters said there would be rain today, the city celebrated at something they could all get behind.

"There's a word for this, isn't there? How it smells when the rain starts falling." She knows he’ll know.

"Yes, ‘petrichor’. ‘Petra’ is stone and ‘ichor’ what flows in gods’ veins."

Selina realises Bruce is thinking the same way as her about the rain. The difference is that he might actually believe the city can be cleaned up. She knows better.

It wasn’t much, she knew, a token gesture, seemingly insignificant, but when she’d heard of her favourite’s death she’d wanted to mark the event. So she’d scrabbled around and found a candle which had been mislaid following the boxing up of the festive decorations. She’d placed it in the window and lit it in their memory. And the following evening, she’d lit the candle again. And so on, for the next few days. When the candle had burned down she’d gone out and carefully chosen one she’d thought they would like. And so a simple tribute became a lasting memorial.
