Tuesday: 100 Words on Babies
May. 14th, 2019 12:07 amHi! I’m
brumeier, and this week we’re going to be filling themes inspired by Spring, using 100 words or any multiple of 100. Today’s theme is BABIES, anything and everything involved with babies, be they human, animal, or de-aged adults! Because who doesn’t love babies? ::grins::
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Any, Love Child (Grounded for Life)
+ Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, finding an abandoned baby ‘something’ offworld and bringing it back to Atlantis
+ Letterkenny, Wayne +/ Daryl + Dan, babysitting a baby (of any species)
+ Any, Any, Character A has to take care of Character B, who has been de-aged (through magic, science, etc.)
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2019-05-14 06:36 pm (UTC)“Looks like a raccoon, ma’am,” Lorne said helpfully.
“Are raccoons native to Pegasus?” Elizabeth eyed John and Rodney, who’d brought it back through the gate, John amused, Rodney surprisingly protective over the thing.
“Zoology’s running a database search now,” Lorne said.
“It’s cute,” Elizabeth offered. She considered trying to pet the creature, decided against it.
Rodney said, plaintively, “They were hurting it.” AR-1 had been on a routine trade mission.
“What are you going to call it?” John asked.
The raccoon said, “The name’s Rocket, thanks.”

Date: 2019-05-14 05:55 am (UTC)Fill 300: The Mortal Instruments
Date: 2019-05-14 06:45 pm (UTC)This party was supposed to be Shadowhunters only, but that was hardly reassuring, even though Simon was now a Shadowhunter himself, because he hadn’t grown up like them, bristling with weapons and moral superiority.
Of all the things Simon had expected at the party - demon attack, a Regency-style insult battle between two women - getting randomly handed a baby was not one of them. Now, Alec and Magnus had a baby, a blue-skinned baby at that since all warlocks had non-human features. So an ordinary human-looking baby shouldn’t have been terrifying.
But it was.
Oh, not at first. It was sleeping peacefully, swaddled in a blanket embroidered with Shadowhunter runes. It didn’t wake and immediately freak out when placed in a stranger’s arms. It was even kind of cute.
But was the party wore on, no one came to collect the baby, and no one Simon showed the baby to seemed to know the baby.
Finally, most of the guests had dispersed, and Simon was left standing in the middle of the Lightwood parlor, still with the sleeping baby.
“Hello?” he asked. “Anyone missing a baby?”
That was when the baby woke up and started to cry.
Some unfamiliar Shadowhunter man darted toward him and scooped the baby out of his arms, shushing the baby.
A woman said, “You made him cry.”
Simon said, “You left him with me for like three hours. I’m surprised he didn’t start crying sooner.”
The woman frowned. “I didn’t leave him with you. Who are you? Gregory -”
The man winced, and Simon ducked away.

Date: 2019-05-14 05:56 am (UTC)Fill: SGA, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay (200)
Date: 2019-05-14 07:12 pm (UTC)John surreptitiously looked around to make sure they were alone. All he needed was for Rodney to get in a fistfight with the dad of one of the newborns in the nursery.
“Seriously, how long was he wedged in the birth canal? That can’t be healthy.”
“Rodney -”
“And that one over there, with the bulgy eyes. That kid is going to look surprised its whole life.”
“You know what’s not healthy? Dissing other people’s babies.”
Rodney huffed, his breath temporarily fogging the glass. “Oh, please. I’m merely pointing out that our baby is clearly the best one. Look how peaceful she is. And say what you want about C-sections, but her head is perfectly round.”
John was torn between amusement and overwhelming affection. Rodney had been so worried about becoming a dad, scared he’d mess things up and be terrible at it. But so far he was a proud, doting father.
“She is pretty perfect,” John agreed. “But you don’t have to put down the other babies to make your point.”
“Our daughter is going on to do great things, John.”
“I don’t doubt it,” John replied.

And lost his heart all over again.
Before her. Before the little girl nestled so comfortably in his arms, only one other person had ever mattered. But now? He would burn down the world to keep her safe. And he knew he would not regret it.

As soon as his father had gone, Wes said, “Is it the zoo? People always take me to the zoo.”
Ros pulled a face. “Certainly not. Why would I want to go there? If I want to look at creatures pulling faces, I can go into work. No, I’ve booked us on a trip to some of London’s old sewers.”
“Awesome!”
“Although on reflection, probably better if you tell your dad we went to the zoo.”

Date: 2019-05-14 09:56 am (UTC)Fill: MCU, Steve Rogers/Sam Wilson/Bucky Barnes (300)
Date: 2019-05-14 05:08 pm (UTC)“I know we said that, but you didn’t see him.” Bucky held the puppy up, and they both gave Steve the exact same hangdog expression. “He was the last one in the box at the bodega. I couldn’t leave him there.”
Steve was pleased that Bucky had the impulse to want to help people – and animals – in need, he really was, but they’d had a long conversation about just this scenario two weeks ago when they found themselves at one of those pet adoption fairs.
“We can’t take care of a puppy,” Steve said. “You know we can’t. Not when we’re called away for missions at a moment’s notice.”
“Good news!” Sam said, striding into the room with his cell phone in his hand. “We got the Dog Nanny!”
“The who?”
“Oh, hey Steve.” Sam plopped down on the floor with Bucky and gave the puppy a vigorous scratch behind the ears. “The Dog Nanny. She’s very exclusive, but I did a little name dropping and she agreed that looking after Captain America’s little furbaby was worthy of her time.”
“Sam –”
“Aww, come on,” Bucky whined. “I’ll take good care of him, and if we go on a mission the Dog Nanny will step in. He’ll never be left alone.”
“Bucky, I don’t –”
Sam stuck his lip out and gave Steve puppy dog eyes too. “How can you say no to Cappy?”
“You named him Cappy?”
Steve noticed for the first time that the tiny black puppy was wearing an American flag collar.
“Don’t be hatin’ on America’s Puppy, Steve,” Sam said solemnly.
Steve knew when he was beat. He joined Bucky and Sam on the floor. “He is kinda cute.”
Looked like they were dog parents now.

Date: 2019-05-15 02:40 am (UTC)Lucifer cradled their son. He seemed entranced by the baby, making silly faces. "Of course he has horns, darling! He is my son - well, our son but my son!"
"But he's a baby, not a...not a goat!"
He turned toward her, a frown marring his face. "No goats! No references to them. Nothing. Our son is not a goat."
Chloe waved at the kid in Lucifer's arms. "But he has hooves! I gave birth to some shapechanging devil child?"
"Baa!" their goat-son bleated -
- Chloe jerked awake, panting, "Nightmare!" and glad of it.

“And what am I to do, whilst the women are prattling on about dirty nappies and squealing over tiny humans’ accessories?”
“I don’t know, but Amenadiel needs you.”
“Ah, Misery wants company.”
“Be nice.”
“Aren’t I always?”
“Not when the event isn’t all about you.” Chloe snorted.
Before Lucifer could object, she grabbed him by the shoulder and dragged him into the banquet hall.

“Hmm.” John didn’t sound convinced.
He was even less convinced when Sherlock’s coat pocket said ‘mew’. “Sherlock!”
“Yes?”
“That kitten we saw at the crime scene, the one which suddenly disappeared. It didn’t disappear into your pocket, did it?”
Sherlock shook his head. “I’ve no idea what you are talking about. But in the meantime, pop downstairs and ask Mrs Hudson for some tuna.”

Date: 2019-05-14 06:58 pm (UTC)Teyla had taken the change with aplomb, as had Ronon, and he took over primary babysitting duties, which for him was martial arts training, regular meals, and also playing tag with the Marines.
Of course Lorne had rounded up child-size clothes for Teyla, and also some Athosian toys for when her attention span for adult things waned.
Rodney liked her, though. Because she really was the Teyla he knew and loved, just shorter and hungrier and freer with laughter and smiles.
He was surprised when she was already in the lab one morning when he headed there right after breakfast. She was sitting on his workbench. Radek stood on one side of her, Kavanagh on the other.
“To be clear,” Teyla said, “the goal of your efforts is the protection of Atlantis.”
“Yes,” both men bit out, glaring at each other.
“And no one on Earth will ever know what it is you have done.”
“Yes.”
“This protocol is to be used in times of emergency.”
“Yes.”
“Then the name should be one that is useful during an emergency, yes?”
Radek sighed. Kavanagh sighed.
“Yes.”
Teyla smiled. “Then what shall it be called?”
“There is only one logical name for it,” Radek said.
Kavanagh pinched the bridge of his nose. “He’s right.”
Teyla smiled. “You agree! This is most excellent. Great minds think alike, do they not?”
Kavanagh and Radek eyed each other, and then they were almost smiling.
Radek said, “Thank you, Teyla, for your wisdom. Come on, Kavanagh. We have work to do.”
Both men stepped away from Rodney’s work bench.
Rodney said to Teyla, “Good morning.”
“Good morning, Rodney.” She smiled knowingly at him, hopped off the bench, and continued on her way.
Rodney watched her go. He missed her regular self, but as he listened to chatter on Atlantis, he heard more stories of her settling disputes, dispensing kindness and wisdom, and knew they’d never lost her, and once he and Miko figured out that machine, they’d get the rest of her back.
