Thursday we take Alternate Occupations
May. 23rd, 2019 12:00 amGood morning all! I remain your host,
untldeathtakeme. Today's theme is alternate occupations. Take your favorite character, and imagine them with a different occupation.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ MCU, Pepper Potts+/Any, Pepper runs a syndicate of some kind (crime? protection? basically I just want Pepper as a Godfather-like figure)
+ MCU, Stephen Strange+/Any, Stephen as a model
+ bbc Sherlock, Gregory Lestrade+/Any, Gregory as a famous footballer
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2019 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2019-05-23 08:56 am (UTC)Fill: MCU, Steve Rodgers + Bucky Barnes
Date: 2019-05-23 09:53 am (UTC)In fact, it was whispered around the horse racing community that Steve had a way with the horses that made even the most stubborn of animals want to give his or her all for Steve.
Bucky helped Steve mount his latest ride. A third year old colt with a white star on its forehead.
"What's this fella's name, Buck?" Steve asked as he got settled in the saddle.
"Captain America," Bucky answered.
"Really?"
"Yes," Bucky replied with a wry grin. "Putting a lot of pressure on an animal naming it after a superhero."
"Cap isn't a superhero," Steve pointed out. "He's just an average Joe fighting for his country."
"Whatever," Bucky said putting paid to one of their ongoing arguments. "Are you ready?"
"Yup," Steve replied having refocused his attention on his mount and the race ahead. "We both our."
Bucky gave them both a good luck pat before he loaded them into the gate.
The gate snapped open at the sound of a bell and the horses took off with Steve and Captain America in the lead.

Date: 2019-05-23 12:30 pm (UTC)Fill 1/2: Tony Stark + ensemble
Date: 2019-05-23 04:18 pm (UTC)“Get ready for Cupid’s arrow, ladies and gentleman!” Nat, dressed in a leather bodysuit, was the club’s emcee. “This archer always finds his target.”
Clint came out dressed like Robin Hood, the green tights leaving very little to the imagination. He had circus experience, so in addition to the undulating dance moves he also did several trick shots with his bow and arrow. He was a great opener, got the crowd in just the right frame of mind.
“This trio of soldiers is ready to be all they can be and protect your borders from foreign invasion. Get ready to stand up and salute!”
Steve, Bucky, and Sam came on stage together, dressed in Army fatigues. Steve was the favorite, though all three had the women – and some men too – screaming and whistling. Tony had been trying to get Steve to do a solo number but he was only comfortable when he was part of a group. When he danced alone he was too stiff and awkward, but with the others he really let himself go. Tony didn’t know how much time Steve spent in the gym to get the ridiculously cut body he had, but it was well worth it.
When Bucky slapped Steve on his barely-covered ass and Steve flushed, Tony took note. Looked like maybe the sexual tension that normally bubbled between them was finally coming to a head. Maybe he should peel Sam off into a solo and have Bucky and Steve do a couple’s routine.
Thor needed no introduction, just the opening strains of AC/DC’s Thunderstruck. There were braids in his long blonde hair and his beard, and he had bright blue warpaint on his face. He was the only performer who drank on stage, a giant stein of beer that he partially poured over his own head midway through his performance. Tony didn’t care for the mess, which needed to be cleaned up before the next act came on, but the ladies loved him.
“Winter is coming, ladies and gentlemen, but you won’t need to bundle up because this next act will heat you to the core.”
Bucky’s solo act was pretty edgy for a strip club, more contemporary dance than an actual striptease, but the crowd ate it up. For such a big, muscular guy, he was surprisingly limber. He put his body through a number of contortions, leaps, and turns, slowly removing every article of clothing until just the g-string was left. He’d offered to go full Monty, but Stark Naked, despite the name, wasn’t that kind of club.
“He’s so beautiful,” one of the women in the audience said, dabbing at her eyes with a cocktail napkin.
The big finale of the night started with Peter, who came out dancing to 1970s pop songs. He brought a lot of energy to the stage, and helped pull the audience out of the sensual, melancholy place Bucky’s performance had taken them. One by one the others joined him and it turned into a pop rock dance-off strip-tease that had the crowd on their feet and dollar bills raining down on the stage.
“Nice job, everyone,” Tony said once Stark Naked was closed for the night. He supplied his dancers with the beverages of their choice and plenty of bar food from the kitchen since they didn’t typically eat before a show.

Date: 2019-05-23 12:40 pm (UTC)Fill: SGA, John Sheppard + Rodney McKay
Date: 2019-05-31 05:22 am (UTC)"You ready?" Rodney impatiently asked. He wasn't looking forward to distracting any of the bulls John was destined to ride.
"As I'll ever be," John replied as he pulled on his battered boots.
"You don't have to participate in this event," Rodney told him. "You have enough points to win some money."
"It's the principle of the matter," John told him. "Besides it'll be fun."
"You need to get your head checked if that's your idea of fun," Rodney muttered.
John shook his head. "Let's get this over with, so you can bitch at me about something else you don't want me to do."
"Excuse me for being concerned about you," Rodney snarked back before leaving the trailer.
John stepped from the trailer. He closed and locked it before following Rodney to ring.
He caught up with Rodney and pulled him aside. "Thank you for your concern," he said.
"You're welcome," Rodney mumbled. "Now, go get 'em, and try to stay on longer than five seconds."
"No promises, but I'll try," John replied just as they called his name.
Rodney nodded and followed John to the ring.
John mounted the bull he had drawn to ride while Rodney slipped into the ring ready to distract it once it threw John.
John and the bull erupted from the gate and John did his best to hold on as the bull did its best to buck him off. He lasted six seconds. He made it to the fence with seconds to spare as the bull got around Rodney and his fellow rodeo clown.
John climbed over the fence and headed back to the gate ready to wait his next turn, if it became necessary.
"Cutting it close there, weren't you?" Rodney asked leaning against the fence to catch his breath.
"Just a little," John admitted. "Hopefully, I don't have to ride again today."
"You might get lucky," Rodney remarked. "If you do, meet me at the bar so we can celebrate you living through another foolish decision."
"You're not as cute as you think you are," John informed him. "I'll see you there."
Rodney smilled and returned to work.

John smirked.
He walked up to Rodney and asked, "How was your day?"
"Uneventful for once," Rodney answered and smiled when John set an open bottle of beer in front of him. "Taken up minding?"
"Maybe," John quietly remarked. "Want nachos tonight?"
"Nah," Rodney replied. "This will keep me."
"Okay," John said. "If you need anything else..."
"Actually, I do," Rodney said with a shy smile.
"Oh?"
"Will you go out to dinner with me?" Rodney asked.
"Yes," John answered slightly amused that Rodney beat him to the punch, so to speak.
"When does your shift end?"
"In about an hour."
"Meet at the diner down the street," Rodney requested as he finished his beer.
"I'll be there," John assured him.
"Until then," Rodney tossed over his shoulder and walked out of the club.
John spent the last hour of his shift whistling happy tunes and feeling like he was walking on water.
It was going to be an interesting night for him and Rodney.

Date: 2019-05-27 04:50 am (UTC)"Why the hell not?" Mulder countered in aggravation. Scully had spent the last hour shooting down all his ideas for the final chapter of the book they were late delivering to their publisher. "People bought your Lone Gunmen idea."
"Most of our fans are closet conspiracy theorists, so the Lone Gunmen idea didn't ask them to suspend reality indefinitely," Scully argued. "Now come up with something better than an angel came to help our two brothers fight demons in Kansas."
"God, you're a tough sell," Mulder muttered saving his idea for later before returning to the drawing board.
"Yes, I am, but that's why you keep me around," Scully told him. "Somebody has to keep you honest."
"Whatever," Mulder mumbled under his breath after she returned to her desk. He knew the real reason that he kept her around was because she was a wild woman in bed. The fact that she was a talented writer was icing on the cake.
