Monday: Poetry
Jul. 1st, 2019 12:01 amHello everyone! I’m
sherlockian_syn and today's theme is poetry. Prompts can be the title of a poem, lines from a poem, or just anything concerning poetry in general. Have fun!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, This Is Just to Say by William Carlos Williams
+ Sherlock, Sherlock Holmes +/ John Watson, poetry open mic night
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tony Stark/Stephen Strange, I think I should have loved you presently by Edna St. Vincent Millay
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2019 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2019-07-02 03:46 am (UTC)Then buy more. – John
The grocery store isn’t on my way. – MRM
Not my problem. – John
I broke that thing. Sorry. – MRM
What thing? – John
Hello? – John
You’re out of sugar. – MRM
Again. Go buy some. – John
This is your place. Take ownership. – MRM
You’re a grown man and I’m not your mother. Go shopping. – John
Worst roommate ever. – MRM
I found the thing. You owe me $175. – John
You grossly overpaid. Here’s $75. – MRM
Thanks. I’m putting a lock on the fridge unless I see the rest. – John
You wouldn’t. – MRM
Okay, fine. Here’s the rest. Take that stupid lock off. – MRM
Going out of town for a few days. Can you feed Comet? – MRM
Can’t you board him? He hates me. – John
No, I can’t. That would be cruel and unusual. I’ll leave his food out. – MRM
Hates. Me. – John
Get over it. – MRM
Not cleaning the cat box. – John
It cleans itself. – MRM
Really? Cool. – John
I assume you’re back. I saw your shoes by the door. – John
Thank you for not killing my cat. – MRM
It was a close thing. How was your trip? – John
You know, if you didn’t work days we could have actual conversations. – MRM
Kids are only in school during the day. My hands are tied. Maybe you should work days. – John
Why would I want to do that? – MRM
Be honest. Are you a vampire? – John
Because I sleep during the day? – MRM
Because you suck. LOL! – John
Very mature. I take back what I said about actually talking to you. – MRM
Have you seen my watch? – MRM
Nope. – John
Are you sure? I think I left it in the living room. – MRM
Haven’t seen it. – John
It’s a very expensive watch, and I really need it. – MRM
Is there an accusation in there somewhere? – John
What? No! Of course not! I just thought maybe you saw it. Or hid it. I didn’t mean to imply you stole it. – MRM
Why would I hide it? – John
For a prank? People do that kind of thing. – MRM
I’m not pranking you, McKay. Did you ask Comet? – John
Don’t be stupid.Found it in Comet’s cat bed. Um. Sorry. – MRMWhat the hell did you do to my kitchen? – John
Sorry. I’ll clean it up. – MRM
Are you okay? – John
Not really. – MRM
How do you feel about laser tag? – John
Sorry. Didn’t know you were actually twelve years old. – MRM
What’s the matter? Scared? – John
You tell me where and when, and I’ll wipe the floor with you. – MRM
You do know I’m former military, right? – John
You do know I’m a physicist, right? – MRM
Oh, it’s on! – John
I had fun yesterday. We should do that again. – John
Me kicking your ass at laser tag? Or the other thing? – MRM
The other thing. Definitely the other thing. – John
Oh. Well. Me too, obviously. – MRM
Good. – John
One Year Later
John handed Rodney the post-it note.
Will you marry me? Also, we’re out of milk.
Rodney stared at it for a long time before he looked back at John. “I’ll go to the store.”
“Is that a yes?”
“As if I’d be stupid enough to say no.”
John handed over another note.
Love you.
Rodney kissed him. “I know. Me too.”
“You love you too? Egomaniac.”
Rodney rolled his eyes. “I love you, too, weirdo.”
One last note.
Wanna get sexy?
Rodney quickly looked around for a pen.
With you? Forever.
John grinned. “And we’ve already written our wedding vows.”
“Don’t make me change my mind,” Rodney threatened.
They both knew it was an empty threat.

Date: 2019-07-01 04:56 pm (UTC)Adam peered over Lucas’ shoulder and read: “L414. J435 J245 L116V L125 L346”
It made no sense to Adam, but Lucas had clearly understood, for he set off at a brisk pace. Adam followed and once they were safe from being overheard, he said, “I presume that means something to you.”
“Of course.” Lucas pointed to each word in turn. “Midnight. Jerusalem Mills street – the V will mean between – Thames walls.”
“Okay, the street between the Jerusalem Mills warehouse and the wall by the river. I know where that is. But even so, how do you read it so easily?”
“If I say L is for London and J for Jerusalem does it make sense.”
Adam shook his head, so Lucas said, “Had there been a T it would have referred to The Tyger.”
“Words from Blake’s poems. Very clever.”

With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Date: 2019-07-01 06:16 pm (UTC)The Genii soldier’s hot, moist breath on Rodney’s neck would have made his stomach churn if his stomach weren’t already filled with ice because of the Genii pistol jammed up against his chest, muzzle pointed right at his heart.
“Rodney!” John hissed over the radio. “Is it all clear?”
It wasn’t all clear. The Genii had gotten the drop on Rodney and tied him up. He was bait for their trap. If they got their hands on John -
No.
Rodney would never let that happen.
“Not a word,” the soldier hissed again.
Rodney needed no words. He hadn’t been able to get his hands free of the ropes, but his dexterous pianist hands had been enough to wriggle around in the knots and get a grip on the gun.
He’d walked through a Stargate. He’d walked into animate darkness. He’d gone toe-to-toe with with Wraith. He wasn’t afraid.
He was always afraid, afraid of being hurt, of dying.
He was afraid of John dying more.
So he curled his finger around the trigger, just like John had taught him.
John would hear the sound and understand. All was not clear. He’d go back to Atlantis for backup. He’d wipe these Genii out of existence.
Rodney curled his finger around the trigger and, just like John had taught him, he didn’t pull.
Love you, John.
He squeezed.

Date: 2019-07-01 06:28 pm (UTC)“Fuck that,” he grumbled, and shifted again in the chair to try and find a more comfortable position.
Hospitals were all about near-misses, which made them preferable to the morgue, but Danny was tired of the antiseptic smells and the beeping machines and having too much time on his hands to wallow in the guilt of not getting to his partner more quickly.
He should’ve made the connections sooner, should’ve seen that Graham was the murdering asshole they were looking for. Steve had been alone with that psycho too long, had nearly bled out under Danny’s hands before the ambulance arrived.
Well, Steve was in for one hell of a rant when he woke up. Danny was a pro at masking guilt and fear with anger, and it wasn’t like Steve was innocent in all that because he’d gone off on his own – he never, ever learned – and if he’d just waited for Danny, he’d –
“Danno?”
Danny’s entire angry train of thought derailed at the sound of Steve’s scratchy voice, barely more than a whisper.
“Right here, babe.” Danny was at his side in an instant, letting him have a sip of the lukewarm water that was on the bedside tray. “Nice and easy.”
“Thanks.” Steve’s eyes closed and Danny thought maybe he was slipping into more natural sleep. He wasn’t. “Knew you’d find me.”
“I wouldn’t have had to find you if you hadn’t gone haring off like some kind of one-man masochistic train wreck.” Danny fussed with the blanket until Steve put his hand on Danny’s.
“Had to.”
“No you didn’t! We’re a team, Steven, and I would think a Navy SEAL would understand that concept just a little better.” Without even thinking, Danny twined his fingers with Steve’s, careful of the IV. “I should’ve been there.”
“You were.”
“That’s clearly the morphine talking, because –”
“You’re always with me,” Steve murmured, and he opened his eyes again. “That’s what gets me through.”
Danny’s throat was so tight he could barely swallow. “I hate you,” he said.
Steve didn’t get a chance to respond, because Danny was kissing him. And he didn’t care about the dry chapped lips or the sour breath or the fact that he’d been doing his damnedest the last few years to keep from giving his feelings away.
When Danny pulled back, Steve’s eyes were closed but he had a big grin on his face.
“Knew it,” he whispered.
“Don’t make me turn up your morphine,” Danny threatened, but Steve had fallen asleep.
Danny settled back in the chair, scooting it closer so he could keep holding Steve’s hand. He wasn’t going anywhere.
