Date: 2011-10-27 12:17 pm (UTC)He can’t deal with the city. Everywhere there are reminders of him. They alley where they first met, the place where Angel bought him a new coat, the trash can that he used to break into Mark and Roger’s apartment…
It’s not just Angel, either, although that’s the main thing, a gaping hole in his heart. Roger’s gone, Mark is working for a soulless corporation, and his job is just as dull and pointless as he’d told Angel that day on the subway.
None of that would have mattered if Angel was still alive. He’d had a way of making problems seem unimportant, of making ordinary things seem almost magical.
But he’s gone, his shelter, his shield against the world.
And Collins is alone.

Date: 2012-01-02 06:33 pm (UTC)"Cas," he whispers into his hands. "Cas."
There's a gaping hole beside him, on the bench, where there'd be a sweeping and creased trench coat. There's a gaping hole in his heart.
Dean blinks away the tears. "Oh fuck," he curses with feeling. "I loved you, you bastard. I fucking loved you."
Castiel is gone, and he isn't coming back this time.

Date: 2012-04-09 12:31 pm (UTC)Each of them holds trauma that they have seen set people to kill, none of them has not stood before someone who shares with them the possibility of violence. And as much as these similarities horrify them, set them to nightmares and fear, there is also a small fragment of relief in knowing that they did not take the step down that road.
Hotch sees it the most, there are so many men broken by the cruel hand of a father. He supposes it makes him a better profiler, this understanding of how they hurt but it comes at the price of memory and nightmare and it haunts him more than the rest.
Morgan fights against his, mentoring children and connecting with victims and never letting himself become something twisted, something broken by his past.
Reid is still finding his balance, finding that place between acceptance and defiance. He has acquired more damage through the years and must work now to discover his ways for ameliorating this hurt.
They all have hurts, have broken pieces and it is what draws them here, what draws them to stare into the abyss because what might have been stares back at them and reminds them of why they still fight.

"No."
Gabriel blinked and slowly let go of his stance, let his smile fade. Sam looked like shit, worse then when Gabriel had last seen him and that was saying a lot.
Sam sat on his motel bed alone, Dean gone hours ago to drink himself into oblivion and then pass out in the Impala because Castiel was dead and he couldn't look at his little brother. Gabriel realized this all at once and did absolutely nothing to stop the pain in his Grace at the misery so prevalent in Sam's very being.
"No." Sam repeated, head down after his initial glance at the archangel. "I'm done."
"Sam..."
"I said no," he snapped again. "Whatever you're here for, whatever you want, I don't fucking care okay? Do what you like, I'm done. I've had enough. We've all had enough." Sam finished in a whisper.
So Gabriel said nothing more and simply stayed where he was, trying to be as non-threatening as possible. Sam's hands twisted around themselves and he watched while the human worked his mind in circles like a skipping record.
He waited but still Sam refused to acknowledge him and the things he was reading in the hunter's mind right now showed him to be in a less then stable state. At this point, Sam was not going to talk to him or listen. He'd come at a bad time, if there was ever a good time it was long ago and Gabriel had already blown that opportunity.
Gabriel reached behind himself and with a quick jerk of his wrist, yanked a feather from his wing and into the human dimension. Holding the rainbow colored, shimmery feather upon his palm and in front of his face, Gabriel blew and it soared gently toward Sam.
Then the Archangel snapped himself away and resolved to wait until Sam called for him so he could finally be there for the young hunter.

Date: 2011-10-28 03:10 am (UTC)He should have been forced into retirement at 60 but he still had the best closure rate of any person in NCIS so they let him stay.
He's 73 and he's been with Tony "24 years this May" when he dies.
Tony'd been looking down the long end of his 50's until he can retire and just putter around the house with Gibbs all day but in one moment all his plans for his life have turned into so much chaff.
Tony watches as Gibbs pulls his weapon (so slow, too slow, even the Director had mentioned Gibbs's slowing reflexes recently) and is unable to help, too busy trying to keep supressing fire on his own targets to take out Gibbs's.
Tony watches the bullets hit, tearing through muscle and bone until they rip out the other side. Three to the chest (pure luck by the scattering of the other shots) but it's more than enough.
Tony can tell from the way Gibbs's face goes slack as his hand instinctively comes up one last time.
Uncaring of the danger, Tony dives across the space between them. He has to be sure... But it's too late to do any good.
Tony turns back to the fight, ignoring his team mates frantic calls and stands, determined to kill one specific target, even if it costs him his life.
The man is running: he has seen his death in Tony's eyes. Tony follows, ducking behind containers when the man fires wildly over his shoulder.
Tony isn't paying attention to what is going on behind him so it's a painfull surprise to feel the bullet rip through his lung. He ignores it as best as he can with the too familiar feeling of drowning on dry land slowing him down.
Finally Tony falls, his strength giving out.
The man he's chasing sees him fall. He's either stupid or ballsier than Tony gave him credit for because he comes back to look. The way he grins down at Tony, getting in his face, is the exact impetuous Tony needs for one last act. he treasures the look of surprise on the man's face when he blows the guys brains out.
As everything begins to fade Tony sees his team coming for him.
Too late, too late...
He's already gone.
On the other side Tony's greeted by a headslap and a beloved voice berating him for being stupid.
He smiles and kisses Jethro.

Date: 2011-11-06 11:00 pm (UTC)He never meant for it to end like this. He gave his life for Sam and gave him the clue about the rings so that nothing bad would happen to the hunter. It was his saving grace; that he was keeping Sam safe.
For Gabriel it felt like salvation, being with Sam, loving him. Sure, he may have strayed off his Father's path at first but Sam brought him back and he'd been loyal to the humans since. Protecting Sam was like protecting everything that had ever mattered to him.
He died thinking he'd done it, that he'd done the very best he could and that maybe the Winchesters could do it. Save the world from destruction because let's face it, if anyone could it was those two.
Gabriel died with renewed faith he had not truly felt for an extremely long time.
And this was his reward?
Rebirth into a human world saved from damnation and paradise while the one he loved, the one he died for, suffered for all eternity trapped in a cage in Hell with his two most hateful brothers as only company?
If he thought he hated and resented his Father before, well, Gabriel could only imagine this was what Lucifer felt like when he took up arms against God.
