Date: 2014-09-29 08:30 pm (UTC)(Pepper/Tony and Betty/Bruce. Also, Tony has basically had RDJ's career.)
...
“Tony,” Pepper says, “please be on your best behavior.” She’s seated at the dining table of their suite, her papers spread out across the glass, and he walks over, gently pulling at her chair until she leans away, turning so that he can stand between her legs and lean down to kiss her.
“Sober and clean for 1000 days, Pep,” he murmurs into her mouth. “Almost three years.”
She nods, leaning back slightly, waiting until he meets her eyes. “We can do this, Tony,” she says. “They’ve never loved you more.”
“I know.” He presses a kiss to her forehead before going to the freezer. “I’ve got some ice cream,” he says. “Want some?”
Pepper sighs. “Lunch is in fifteen minutes.”
“But I’m hungry now,” he explains, pulling out – strawberry, cheesecake, and almond fudge ice cream, announcing each one with a flourish.
“Oh, fine,” Pepper says. “I’ll take a little bit of the fudge.”
…
“I shouldn’t be here,” Bruce tells her, arms wrapped around himself. “It’s a disaster waiting to happen – a timebomb.”
“Bruce,” Betty says, making sure he sees her approach before putting her arm around his shoulder, resting her cheek against his, “you haven’t had an incident in five years. Remember? And that guy, it was his fault, everyone admitted it.”
“But still,” he protests, “it’s not safe.”
“Nowhere is safe,” she says gently. “And what does that mean?”
“Everywhere is,” he mutters.
“Standing on Giants was inspired by our movie, Bruce,” she says, pulling her arm away and stepping back, going to her bag and grabbing her laptop. “Fury himself extended the invitation and paid us for the rights, just to be safe. At any point, we can pull the plug.” Bruce isn’t looking at her, or even lifting his gaze from the floor. She wants to flay those fuckers alive for what they did – instead, she takes a deep breath and boots up the laptop, humming under breath until it’s awake.
Her voice will never be what it once was. But if she hadn’t been at home when the call came, she knows that Bruce Banner would be dead and the world would’ve never had his poetry.
“Listen to this, Bruce,” she says, and then recites,
I'm waiting.
Exclamation point. Question mark.
A dash or two.
Period.
I'm waiting.
She pauses, hoping, and then Bruce continues,
Meet me where the rainbow touches
And the clouds part –
Meet me in our childhood games
Where I’m still waiting.
He looks up to meet her eyes. “Let’s do this,” he says.

Date: 2014-09-29 09:00 pm (UTC)It’s a three bedroom suite and Brock claims the room closest to the door. Sharon, who sometimes eyes Brock like she doesn’t like all that much, tells Bucky to take the master bedroom, which puts her firmly between them. She also says, “We have an hour till lunch and the meet&greet – take a nap, kid.”
She gives her a tiny, mostly-joke glare for that because she can’t be more than a decade older than him, but he grabs his bags and carries to his room, where he dumps them on the floor and then falls onto the bed.
He just wants to play the piano and sing. Like Billy Joel used to. He wishes he had a clean slate, without all that stupidity, that the years between Elite and Ravage had never happened. Elite was the last good thing he did before Arnim gave him the push into coke. And if Timmy hadn’t been there…
He shudders. Timmy was there. And Timmy’s boyfriend Jim Morita let him have that part last year in Ravage, even though he and Timmy hadn’t said more than five words to each other in seven years.
This is Bucky’s second chance. Possibly, his only chance, but maybe Tony Stark will have advice for that, if Bucky can get up the courage to ask.
He pulls out his phone and texts Timmy, Tell me I can do this.
Timmy, his older brother from the Fire in the Jungle days, back when Bucky was the precocious brat who saw too much and always had a quip, always earned a laugh. Timothy Dugan was meant to be the heartthrob, but it was little Jimmy Barnes who stole hearts.
You can do this, kiddo, Timmy replies immediately. Me and the boys will thump as often as needed till you get it.
Bucky grins, rolling over to stare at the ceiling.
He can do this. He has to do this.
He nods firmly. He will do this.

Date: 2014-09-30 01:41 am (UTC)I'm so glad you like it! I think I might have the barest bones of a plot.
So... I've been outlining and timelining and shit -- the problem is, epics rarely work out for me. Instead, I'm thinking of maybe doing a drabble or two (or maybe a drabble from one member of each group) for every day they're in LA. That way, I don't get bogged down in the epicness.
How's that sound?
