Monday: 100 Words On Weather
May. 13th, 2019 12:12 amHi! I’m
brumeier, and this week we’re going to be filling themes inspired by Spring, using 100 words or any multiple of 100. Today’s theme is WEATHER. The change of season always brings a mix of different types of weather, so don’t feel like you have to restrict yourself solely to April showers. Your prompts and fills can be anything and everything involved with weather, be it summer droughts or crisp October afternoons! (Or the freakin’ snow we had here in NY for Mother’s Day.)
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams,
Well the sky is finally open, the rain and wind stopped blowin'
But you're stuck out in the same old storm again
You hold tight to your umbrella, darlin' I'm just tryin' to tell ya
That there's always been a rainbow hangin' over your head
(Kacey Musgraves)
+ Stargate Multiverse, Any team, caught in a sudden, unusual storm offworld
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes, dancing in the rain
+ Any, any/any, “And now with the weather, here’s…”
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2019-05-13 05:47 pm (UTC)Rodney scoffed and kept his eyes to the sky, body tense with anxiety when he saw no sign that the storm would break soon. A stray raindrop fell on his face and he wiped it away.
"And I could do without tedious idioms right now, Colonel."
"Join us and rest, Rodney. We cannot control when the storm will pass," Teyla said, her voice tinged with maternal concern.
Rodney turned away from the mouth of the cave and carefully made his way toward the rest of his team, crouched or sitting cross-legged among the rocks.
"What does a pot of water have to do with the rain?" Ronon asked, eyebrow raised.
John chuckled, but didn't answer.
"It means time is relative," Rodney answered, "now does anybody have anything to...distract us while we wait? I can't just sit here." Teyla patted Rodney on the shoulder.
John reached into one of his many pockets and pulled out a deck of playing cards. "Who wants to learn how to play Texas Hold 'Em?"
"Of course you have a deck of cards," Rodney mumbled.

Date: 2019-05-14 12:11 am (UTC)Bucky kept his hold on Steve firm.“Don’t care.” He’d never have dared to do this before, dancing in the warm summer rain, because Steve would have caught a vicious cold and been near death for weeks after. He leaned in and whispered, so only Steve could hear. “I love the way you love me.”
Steve’s cheeks flushed bright red, shyness instead of fever. Up close, like this, he was the pretty slender artist Bucky had grown up with. Now they were of a height, of a strength, but - Steve was still his.

Date: 2019-05-13 11:41 am (UTC)Fill: Bucky/Sam (x2)
Date: 2019-05-13 07:23 pm (UTC)Sam frantically searched the living room in the apartment he shared with Bucky Barnes, and his anxiety level increased with every second his favorite sweater remained missing.
"You mean this sweater, right here?" Bucky stood in the entryway that led into the kitchen, a smarmy grin on his face. He was wearing the sweater. Sam's eyes lit up.
"Yes, that one. It's my favorite one and it's cold out and I need to get going. I'm gonna be late for my group meeting."
"But I like this one. It's comfy." Bucky frowned in mock disappointment.
"Well, James, not all of us were given a Super Soldier cocktail that made us walking human furnaces. Give it here." Sam walked over and ran his hands along the hem, his fingertips grazing the skin of Bucky's stomach.
"Fine," Bucky sighed, lifting his arms above his head. Sam tugged the sweater off and pulled it over his own head just as quickly.
"My favorite sweater and it smells like you. It's gonna be a good day, I think." Sam grinned, kissed Bucky on the cheek.
"Can I have it after you're back?"
"Maybe. If you're good." Sam winked.

Date: 2019-05-13 03:26 pm (UTC)The rain, which had been a steady drizzle for most of the evening, had started to grow heavier. By the time Tariq and Jo had driven off with the man, Lucas’ thick fur was sodden. Adam opened the boot of his own car, and hurriedly stepped back. He wasn’t quick enough and was caught in the shower of water as Lucas shook vigorously.
Adam groaned. “Every time. You do it to me every time.”
Ros laughed and hopped into the car before Lucas could decide to shake again.
Adam got into the driver’s seat, started the engine and turned the heating on. He drove Ros home with the strong smell of wet werewolf assailing them from the back of the car.

Date: 2019-05-13 05:55 pm (UTC)Finally, out of desperation, John said, “They’re forecasting the bank holiday will be sunny.”
Sherlock looked up. “Mrs Hudson said it was supposed to start well, and then go downhill.”
“Typical bank holiday weather.”
“At least it should be warmer than last weekend.”
John took a long drink of his tea, before setting his cup back down and saying, “Yes. It was so cold I had to put the heating on in the evenings.”
“Yes. Well, until next time!”

Date: 2019-05-14 12:37 am (UTC)Rodney wasn’t surprised that some of the Marines, when off duty, had taken to nudity to keep cool. He was surprised that Ronon didn’t indulge in the same.
“Naked is vulnerable. Never know when you’ll need to fight,” Ronon said, though he was wearing at least a pair of cargo shorts.
That Teyla joined Cadman and some of the female Marines in their nudity was surprising, but she just shrugged one shoulder and smiled at him.
John looked amused when Rodney shoved a canister of homemade sunblock at him, but the next time he went running shirtless, he did smell like the simulated tropical aroma of cocoa butter.
The heatwave was almost done - or at least Rodney and Radek had almost conquered the city-wide cooling system - when Rodney stumbled across one person who he’d never have suspected of nudist tendencies.
Major Lorne. Who was sunning himself on a balcony - painting supplies stacked neatly beside him.
For one moment, Rodney was stunned, because - Major Lorne. Sarcastic. Uptight.
But also tattoos and miles of golden skin and sleek muscles and…
No tan lines.
“See something you like?” Lorne drawled.
Rodney started, blushing. “Ah, do you need some sunblock?”
Lorne opened one eye and smirked at him. “If you’ll put it on me.”
Rodney raised his eyebrows. “Me?”
“Don’t see any other hot scientists hanging around this balcony.”
“You think I’m hot?”
Lorne’s smile gentled. “Yeah. I do.”
Rodney took a deep breath. “Okay. Let me help you with your sunblock…”

Date: 2019-05-14 12:45 am (UTC)But for John to just...strip his shirt off while he and Rodney were heading for their private space at the end of the East Pier was startling.
Rodney knew he was blushing and hoped he could attribute it to the heat.
Then John pressed the cool beer bottle to the side of his neck, head tipped back, sighed gratefully.
“Give me winter any day,” John said. “You can always put on more clothes and pile on more blankets. With summer - well, there’s only so much you can take off, and even then it might not be enough.”
Rodney’s hyperactive genius brain was suddenly filled with images of John naked and sprawled on the edge of the pier, feet in the water, sipping at his bottle of beer.
John glanced at him. “What do you think?”
“I totally agree,” Rodney said, hastily. “I’m Canadian. I’m pretty much immune to winter anyway.”
John drawled, “I’ll bet you look real cute, all done up like an eskimo.”
Rodney spluttered. “I am not cute. Cute is for - puppies and unicorns.”
“And sometimes genius scientists,” John said loftily.
They reached the end of the pier and plopped down. John took off his shoes before he dipped his feet into the water. He uncapped his bottle with a flick of his wrist - he used his military-issue knife - and took a long pull.
Rodney watched his throat work and imagined his lips wrapped around something other than the neck of a beer bottle. “If you say so.”
John said, “I do.”

Date: 2019-05-13 05:45 pm (UTC)Steve didn’t bother responding, just kept cutting his way through the heavy undergrowth with the machete.
The heat and humidity was oppressive, and Danny’s shirt was sticking to him. And as much as he liked to think he was in pretty good shape, the uphill hike through the rainforest was making his leg muscles burn. He felt like he was in a Tarzan movie, and not in a good way.
Also, why couldn’t he have a machete too?
“Steven! I’m about five minutes from expiring due to heat exhaustion.”
That finally got Danny a reaction, which was Steve looking over his shoulder and smirking.
“You’re in no danger of expiring, Danno.”
“We keep this up and I’m going to be in danger of strangling your Sentinel ass and burying you in an unmarked grave.”
“Maybe we could take a quick break,” Steve amended.
Danny had never been happier to see a fallen log. He dropped down on it, feeling it give just a little, and stretched his legs out.
“This is stupid,” he reiterated. “This is all just mental, right? Can’t you make it more pleasant for those of us who don’t regularly swing from vines and talk to monkeys?”
Steve leaned against a vine-choked tree, arms crossed and muscles bulging in a very distracting way. “It’s not mental.”
“Well, it’s not real either, because you know what? Jungles aren’t blue. Also, why am I even here? Isn’t this more of a Sentinel thing?”
“You heard Freddie. We have to complete this task together.”
Danny snorted. “Oh, well, by all means let’s take the word of your own personal Dungeon Master, who’s so new to this gig he doesn’t know how it all works either.”
And okay, that might’ve been sour grapes. Danny suspected that Steve and Freddie were more than just friends and SEAL team brothers-in-arms, and seeing the dearly departed man show back up in the blue-tinted spirt plane to offer suggestions hadn’t made Danny very happy.
“The struggle is what makes it worthwhile,” Steve said.
“Thank you for that affirmation. You see that hanging on an office wall somewhere?”
“Why are you so crabby?”
“Why?” Danny pushed himself off the log, almost tripped over a rock, and shook his finger at Steve. “I’m crabby because it’s a hundred degrees out here and I’m sweating my ball off, and you have some mystical swirly-whirly ability to fix that because we’re not in an actual rainforest, but you prefer to suffer. Well, I’m not suffering along with you. I’m just the Guide. You’re supposed to coddle me and shit.”
Steve’s eyebrows were so high they looked ready to leave his face altogether. In the next second he was bent over laughing.
“It’s not funny!” Danny complained, except that it kind of was. As if he’d let anyone coddle him for any reason. He fought to keep a scowl on his face. “Stop laughing, you ridiculous hyena person!”
Steve looked up at Danny, still bent over with his hands braced on his thighs. His face was red, his mouth still curved in a grin. “You’re the one being ridiculous.”
“Maybe so, but I’m not wrong.”
“What do you want? An escalator?”
“I was thinking more of a nice waterfall and a private lake, and you without any clothes on.” Danny sidled closer to his Sentinel. It had taken him a while to get used to the blue tint everything had in the spirit plane, particularly Steve, but now it was like watching an old black-and-white movie.
“And where would you be in this scenario?”
“Also naked. Possibly challenging you to see how long you really can hold your breath underwater.” Danny hooked his fingers through the belt loops on Steve’s cargo pants and pulled him close. “We can consider that a Sentinel-Guide team-building experience, don’t you think?”
“The idea might have some merit,” Steve allowed. He dipped his head and kissed Danny, arms draped over Danny’s shoulders.
When Steve pulled back, Danny could hear a waterfall somewhere off to their left. He grinned.
“Let’s get out of these sweaty clothes.”
“Lead on, Guide,” Steve replied. Which was just an excuse for him to trail after Danny and grab his ass.
Danny suddenly had a whole lot less to complain about.
ETA: Forgot the 100 word rule! Welp, I'll fix that in editing. LOL!
