Friday: 100 Words on Renewal
May. 17th, 2019 12:03 amHi! I’m
brumeier, and this week we’ve been filling themes inspired by Spring, using 100 words or any multiple of 100. Thank you so much to everyone who left a prompt and/or filled one this week. Ya’ll are great! Our final theme is RENEWAL. Spring is a time when everything starts over. You can tackle this however you want, from renewal of vows to a renewal of self to renewing a library card. Let your imagination fly!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes (/Sam Wilson),
Where I've become so numb, without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there, and lead it back home
(Evanescence)
+ Any, any m/m, couples retreat
+ Sherlock, John Watson +/ Sherlock Holmes, urban renewal
+ Stargate Multiverse, Any, When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. (Lao Tzu)
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2019-05-18 04:57 am (UTC)"Why do you care for me?" Bucky asked uncertain where he stood with Sam. He cherished their friendship since he didn't have many friends and didn't want to ruin it if he didn't have to with his doubts.
"Because I do," Sam quietly declared knowing Bucky wouldn't accept that for an answer saddened by the fact that Bucky was doubting their friendship.
"That's not an answer," Bucky growled and made to walk away before he said something hurtful. He did care for Sam, but he wasn't certain that he would call it love.
Sam muttered a few choice words under his breath before reaching out and stopping Bucky with a hand on his good arm. "I care and not because I see you as something that needs to be repaired and set free."
Bucky stopped. He didn't turn and look at Sam, but he didn't shake Sam's hand from his arm either. "That would be a first," he muttered still annoyed that Steve thought as much, but then he didn't blame his childhood friend since all Steve wanted was his friend back not a deprogrammed ex-Hydra agent.
Sam caught hold of Bucky's other arm and turned Bucky to face him. "Let me show you how much I care."
"Okay," Bucky reluctantly agreed.
Sam smiled and tried to pull Bucky into a first kiss.
Bucky resisted.
Sam softly sighed. He had his work cut out for him. "I'm in this for the long haul, so you better get use to having me around James."
"Why?"
"Because I love you, you big idiot," Sam muttered and pulled on Bucky's arms.
Bucky allowed himself to fall into the embrace and the kisses that soon followed.

Date: 2019-05-18 04:11 am (UTC)"We are here to reconnect," Desmond answered slowly pronouncing each word hoping against hope that Jimmy was actually listening to him.
"Reconnect?" Jimmy said with a quizzical eyebrow. "That implies that we have drifted apart."
"Haven't we?" Desmond countered.
"The sex is still great, so I would say no," Jimmy remarked with a smirk.
Desmond swore under his breath his accent making the words incomprehensible, but Jimmy got the gist of why his lover was upset.
"Des," he said catching hold of Desmond's shoulders. "Please calm down and tell me why you think we need some yahoo's help in reconnecting."
Desmond closed his eyes and took a deep breath and slowly let it out. He opened his eyes and looked Jimmy directly in the eye. "The sex as you claim may still be good, but that's us going through the motions. You checked out of our relationship weeks ago and I don't know how to fix that."
Jimmy opened his mouth to deny Desmond's observation and promptly closed it. Desmond was correct. He had checked out of their relationship, but that was because he had never had a relationship last longer than six months.
"Jimmy?"
"Shit, Des," Jimmy sighed. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize I was being that much of an asshole. Forgive me?"
"I will, but you must tell me why," Desmond said relieved that he had finally gotten through to Jimmy.
"This is the longest relationship I have ever been in," Jimmy explained dropping his arms to his sides. "Six months is my record and we are approaching a year, so I guess I couldn't believe my good fortune and started pushing you away to keep the heartbreak to a minimum."
"You're a dumbass," Desmond muttered pulling Jimmy into a fierce embrace. "I get that you've had shitty relationships, but you're stuck with me. So let's spend our time here working through your insecurities and get on with life."
Jimmy pulled back and retorted, "Yes, sir," with a sketchy salute.
Desmond shook his head in bemusment. "I love you, you crazy nut," he murmured before pulling him into a soft kiss.
Jimmy allowed himself to fall into the kiss with the thought that he loved Desmond more than he thought was possible.

Date: 2019-05-17 07:04 pm (UTC)"Hmm?" John was distracted by the young cashier handing him back his change, along with a take-away box full of salad greens, vibrant vegetables, and grilled meat.
The two of them reentered the flow of foot traffic through Berwick Street Market, John keeping his take-away parcel (which was actually for Mary) tucked close to his body.
"Think about it," Sherlock said, louder this time.
"Think about what?"
"This sprawl of a market in Soho has a 300-year history and still hasn't been destroyed by some sort of urban renewal project."
"And?" John asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I just find it a bit fascinating, that's all."
John spotted Mary off to the side in the crowd, and gave her a wave. "Well, some weeds refused to be uprooted, hmm? People have a tendency to hang on to the past.”
John glanced at Sherlock and saw the sad smile on his face before it evaporated.
“I think we know a bit about that, at any rate. You sure you don't want anything to eat? We can grab a kebab up here."
Sherlock looked at him, eyes carefully blank. "I'll be fine."

Date: 2019-05-17 02:19 pm (UTC)“I think you’ll find it’s a library card,” Abe replied.
“Irrelevant. Anyway, the system threw up a date of birth. And the assistant looked at the date and looked at me and said it couldn’t possibly be my card and therefore wouldn’t renew it.”
“Haven’t you had that before?”
“Yes, but the assistant has always said ‘there must be something wrong with the system’ and renewed it anyway. This time, however, they refused.”
Abe sighed. “So what do you want me to borrow for you?”

Date: 2019-05-18 01:19 am (UTC)“I don’t know why you’re so excited. It’s a dumb show.” Suse was sitting on the floor with her sketchpad, the end of her braid in her mouth.
“No, it isn’t. And if you’d watch more than one episode, you’d be just as excited as me.”
Jamey had signed petitions, sent emails to the network, and hosted viewing parties with other kids from school that were into the show. He’d never not be annoyed that Suse refused to give it a chance, especially now that it had been saved from imminent cancellation.
Well, with the show back he’d have another chance to win her over.
“Wormhole X-Treme! has been successfully renewed, Sir,” Walter reported.
General O’Neill nodded. “Excellent news. Any trouble?”
“No, Sir. Sheppard Industries made a healthy donation to the network through one of its shell companies, with the proviso that the series be renewed for at least three more seasons.”
“That should carry us through declassification. Nice work.”
“Big fan,” Walter admitted, grinning.

Date: 2019-05-17 06:19 am (UTC)Star Wars, Alexsandr Kallus, going nowhere (200)
Date: 2019-05-20 03:05 am (UTC)The durasteel walls he can't blame, the interior of a starship is supposed to look the same, reassuring in its stability, the confidence it won't budge when under attack (surprise, it will); the ranks may be fluid, but not enough so to change overnight, or to give Moff Tarkin a change of heart regarding their dress code; their goal will not be altered until it is achieved, still.
People, human beings, adaptable, unstable pieces of the solid Empire, change. To assume that, though, it's to see them as individuals, a mistake none can afford to make. They're all part of something bigger here.
They're like the walls, like destroying the Rebellion, like uniforms and protocols: means to an end, the only way to save the galaxy. To be an Imperial Agent means to believe in that above anything else.
He should. He used to be one of those non-individuals.
It's all the same, except for how he's not the same.
He longs for the familiarity he's never had. He longs to be missed, to have others concern for him. He aches for more. Those feelings, however, may go away. Except for one.
He hopes.

Date: 2019-05-17 06:20 am (UTC)Fill Faith/Robin, post Becoming
Date: 2019-05-17 10:00 pm (UTC)In the quiet of the motel room, Faith couldn’t help but hear every breath Robin took, the slight hitch as he breathed in, the way the bedclothes rustled as he breathed out. She kept her eyes on his chest, studying the rise and fall, her mind for once not registering the expanse of skin before her, the definition of his muscles. All her attention was on the bandage wound around his waist, expertly applied by Giles and still mercifully white, no fresh bleeding to be seen.
And still, she couldn’t sleep, couldn’t bring herself to close her eyes, just in case.
She froze for a moment as the gap between exhale and inhale was just slightly longer than usual, adrenaline spiking through her like it did whenever she was on patrol and a vamp appeared before her. That was different though; there she knew what to do. Here, she was helpless and the relief that coursed through her when she heard him breathe in was enough to make her weak.
And as she was processing that, his eyelids fluttered and cracked open. Focusing on her, he blinked, then blinked again, like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“You’re still here,” he murmured, voice hoarse with sleep and whatever meds they’d managed to scare up. It sent something warm and tender unfurling itself in Faith’s stomach, spreading through her chest and, against all odds, she felt a smile coming to her face as her hand moved to his cheek, lingered there.
“Surprise.”

Date: 2019-05-17 03:39 pm (UTC)“And it’s important to let it progress at its own rate,” Charlie added. “Force it like a hot house plant, and no sooner have the leaves all come out than they die. Kurtz tried to force me.”
“I’ll never do that. I will give the leaves the time they need, until there is so much green I can no longer see the branches beneath.”

Date: 2019-05-17 06:14 pm (UTC)"Stop fidgeting. I can hear you." Sam muttered from the next chair over.
"Why are we doing this again?"
Sam sighed. "We're relaxing. Taking it easy. Self care."
"Seems like a waste of time to me," Bucky grumbled. He felt a hand slip into his and give it a light squeeze.
"It's okay to do things for yourself sometimes, to take a break from saving the world. I promise."
Bucky squeezed Sam's hand in return.
"I know. I just really have to scratch my nose and it's driving me crazy."
Sam chuckled. "That means it's working, Buck."
A sliding door opened from the other side of the room, and Bucky tensed up involuntarily. Old habits die hard.
"How are we doing?" Bucky relaxed when he realized it was the woman who'd brought them into their suite and put on their facials.
"Just fine, ma'am," Sam answered.
"Are we ready to wash those faces?"
"Yes!" Bucky blurted out.
She took the cucumber slices off of their eyes, and motioned them toward the basin on the other side of the room.
"You first, James." Sam said, a smug grin on his face.
Bucky narrowed his eyes at Sam, but then scampered over to the basin to scrub off his face. When he was done, Sam was at his side, handing him a towel to dry off with.
Bucky smiled. "Thanks."
"Thank me later...in the hot tub." Sam winked, and suddenly Bucky thought a day at the spa wasn't so bad after all.

Date: 2019-05-17 05:35 pm (UTC)Nina Simone blared out of the radio and Trixie sang along.
And I'm feeling good
Fish in the sea you know how I feel
River running free you know how I feel
Blossom on the tree you know how I feel
Moving cross country had been a gamble. Everything she ever knew was back in New York: her family, her friends, familiar haunts. She’d left the old Trixie back there, too. She was older now, not as inclined to rush in where angels feared to tread. Maybe not necessarily wiser, but definitely more tempered.
Trixie held her left hand out, fingers splayed so she could get a good look at her brand new engagement ring. Another change, because once upon a time she thought the only man for her was her childhood sweetheart, Jim. Their lives had diverged, though they’d managed to stay friends.
Now she had Jupiter in her life, and he was the perfect partner for her. Supportive, even-tempered, and just as inclined to want to chase a mystery. When he proposed he told her she was the literal light of his life, sunshine even on the darkest days. He was the same for her, every day.
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
“I’m the luckiest person alive!” she shouted at the top of her lungs. She wanted everyone to know how happy she was, and now much she was looking forward to the next chapter of her life.
